Ceci and Johnson are both bad, but Johnson is worse. Plus Ceci is a RHD, which TOR needs. He's also younger and on a much better contract.

if JJ was RHD i think this would be pretty good maybe adjustment of the pick and switch out Aberg for anyone in the glut of forward depth for the leafs and it makes sense. Jarry could play 20 games no problem and i think JJ is equivalent to ceci.

Really interesting deal imo. I think Toronto declines, just because Ceci is a one-year obligation. Worst case scenario, he gets buried at some point or they trade him at a retained salary. Best case he’s okay, which is honestly more than I think you can say for Johnson. The part about getting Jarry should be an intriguing proposition for Toronto though. Idk good idea

Hard pass for the Leafs, Ceci is a one year gamble. A little expensive, but I'd be quite happy if he was making 3 million. Jack Johnson has been a frankly bad defenseman for about 2 years, and I only expect to get worse. I was waiting to see who would make the mistake of signing him last year and unfortunately for you it was Rutherford.

Also, likely unpopular opinion, but Rutherford has to go, they've won two cups under him, but a lot of the times that has seemed to be despite him instead of because of him.

He has consistently signed older and/or depth players to above their worth. He has managed to get out from most of his mistakes, but they're building up now with a new fourth liner signed for over 3 million for term, a breaking down Hornqvist signed for term over 30 y/o, an at best okay defenseman signed for too much (Gudbranson), and a bad defenseman signed for term (JJ). He has mixed in some good moves (killed the Leafs on the Kessel trade by buying low), but he has been more bad than good of late...
