Cost certainty. St. Louis is already going to have to make some tough choices next summer, having Parayko locked in at a very affordable cap hit for the next couple years is worth a lot. Then again, it’s Edmonton so that pick has a good chance of being a lotto winner so maybe this isn’t a bad deal after all.

I think you're right. A high 2020 1st is certainly not the difference between the two.

Not sure why people get so butt-hurt on here. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Parayko could definitely shake loose. Why else would they have signed Faulk, a 2RHD? St. Louis may want to re-sign Pietrangelo. Teams don't usually let their captain walk as UFAs . . .

What do you really imagine Parayko is worth and why would this trade be bad for St. Louis??? Parayko is a great top 4 RHD, but at 5.5m per year, it's a fair deal, but not really a steal. Nurse is younger, cheaper, and is RFA, whereas Parayko's best years are behind him probably. First round picks are very valuable. If anything, it is an overpay.
