PIT is going to have to add a 1st or 2nd to make this happen.

Why would the Kings do this? They're rebuilding, they don't need a 27 year old 3C and a boat anchor on defense. Kovalchuk isn't great, but his contract isn't really hurting anything right now. The Kings aren't going to be a cap team for several years.

So the Kings essentially are paying $6¼ million for 2 years of Bjugstad and taking on 4 (!) years of Johnson just to get rid of Kovalchuk? Not going to happen.

Change Bjugstad to Hallander and add a 1st round pick, or drop the salary retention and downgrade the pick to a 2nd and the Kings might consider it.
