Next Year No Krug

Created by: BruinsFan35
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 28, 2019
Published: Oct. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously this team is better with Krug, but I wanted to see who would replace him in the lineup. The scratched players would get a good deal of ice time, as they tend to do under Bruce Cassidy’s system, which is why I have Zboril up in the NHL over someone like Kampfer.

I suspect Krug is going to shoot for 8.5ish. He may end up settling near the 6.75 above, but I think he aims high at least at first.

I think Coyle is significantly overpaid in this, but other than that I think it’s pretty good. Lauzon is likely ahead of Zboril though.

I think I read a bit ago on 31 thoughts the podcast by friedman and he said krug is willing to do a bit of a sweetheart deal for stay with boston. That makes me think hed probably get the contract you gave coyle here

Wow what a terrible overpayment to get rid of 1 year of Backes.

Gryz does get that $ or that term as RFA - he's not going to get more than McAvoy.
Krug make the PP go, and moves the puck. Better in his own end than Erik Karlsson SJS (at $11M AAV). Sign him to 7x7 so I don't have to hear for 10 years how the Bruins "need a puck moving defenceman". Maybe Josi will sign for less than 9, but if it's over 9, then Krug has a good case for 8AAV. So sign him before the Josi deal raises the asking price.
I agree about biting the bullet to get rid of the Backes cap hit next year (which I don't believe a buyout will accomplish); and I have lost my patience with Heinen [he takes a full 3 seconds to get off a shot]. Not a 2.8M cap hit player [extending plays can't be the #1 strength of a top 9 forward].
I don't think Coyle will get that much $ based on his lack of points (in the regular season). I would love the B's to re-sign him, but they need to trade Backes, Heinen and John Moore to do it. Uro, Gryz and Krug are fine LHD next year.
No Chara next year. Father time has caught up, and the B's need to let the younger kids play, plus Uro's cap hit is $1.2M less than Z's; and the B's need that $ for Krug, Coyle and DeBrusk.

He's owed $3 million after July 1st. He'll be a prime target for a team looking to get to the cap floor.

Lol, you said the same thing this last offseason when he was owed 5m for 2 years. I told you nobody would take him.

He will be owed 4m for 1 next year, the terms got worse just shorter. They won’t be able to move him. They will have to buy him out. Something they should have done this year. Would not have gotten any cap relief this year really. But it would have saved an extra 1m next year (3m hit as opposed to 4) plus they would have gained a roster spot.

That being said this is ridiculous. Better off keeping Heinen and buying Backes out. Some of these contracts are excessive and will make up that difference. Plus Chara likely retires.

Oh...BTW...for the OP....they are keeping Krug. ??‍♂️

And I still stand by that he was a target for some of the cap floor teams. Unfortunately the prices were too high, teams found suckers elsewhere and Sweeney decided to keep Backes vs getting bent over by another team.

I don't think its light or heavy, its just right... BUTTTTT, they aren't giving up. a roster player for that! It will be the equal value in prospects / picks, maybe even less because it is the last year on the deal

There was no scuttlebutt about any teams inquiring about Backes and any team that wanted him for that purpose he would not have waived for anyway.

His career is basically over. The minute he is bought out by whoever it is he’s done. Nobody will sign him.

Not anywhere. Granted we don’t hear about 95% what goes on behind closed doors. Still...not a whisper.

I would not be surprised if Ottawa asked, but he was not going to waive for them anyway.

LOL you're right you don't hear about 95% what goes on. What I do know is that there were a few teams kicking the tires on Backes, but again they wanted too much to take him on.

I don't understand how you figure Grizz will get more then Mac or Carlo. Better off giving Krug $8m and giving Kuhlman away. I'd let Kuhlman walk before giving him $2m. I don't see anything there but speed.

Coyle a slight overpay, but seeing what Hayes got from Philly, he'll probably get something close. Bruins need a center of his age to transition, he is a must.

Can't bring a 4th line guy like Wagner back for close to $2m.

Don't see any reason to do that Backes trade. Just buy him out if necessary. He still seems to be a big part of the leadership off the ice.
