I think it's pretty much a sure thing that one of Johnsson, Nylander and Kapanen will be moved in the next 2 season. Do you keep Johnsson and Kapanen over Nylander? I would, but apparently there was some oral agreement between the player and GM that he would not be dealt during the term of this contract.

I would fire my GM if there is such an oral agreement. Dubas's job to MLSE to make the Leafs as good as possible now and long term. Of course Shanahan and other top Leafs executives were negligent in their duties during the RFA negotiations and seemingly let Dubas single handily proceed on his own agenda..

However this situation was left, and whatever surrounds this "oral agreement" or perhaps it's more of an "understanding" or a "gentlemen's agreement", I think this could become a situation begging for the NHLPA to step in for whatever sort of grievance is filed on behalf of Nylander, when/if he gets dealt. My rebuttal to you @palhal is that our GM has proven to not be a good negotiator when it comes to contracts. He clearly can make a good pitch, but that's not what my concern is about.

Kapanen plays the best defensive game, and is the fastest, amongst all 3 of them, so I would argue he has the most worth to the Leafs. Nylander is the most offensive, but I don't know if you were watching last night's game but his defensive miscues are getting more noticeable and happening on a more frequent basis. If I was the Leafs, I would get rid of Nylander. Johnsson is a bit of everything, or perhaps a jack of multiple trades where he is just not exceptional in any one area but does a lot of stuff right. I would say Johnsson, by sheer volume of wing depth, to me at least, is likely the odd man out if the Leafs were seriously in need of cap relief (which I am sure at some point they will be). I will say that I think Nylander brings the Leafs back the most, has the most value, and I'd be very interested to see what value he could bring back that might be able to help us defensively.

Nylander has the most value, and its not very close at all- he's not going anywhere, and if he does, it's because somebody significantly overpays. Johnsson and kapanen are somewhat close in value, but the leafs have ridiculous depth at RW (MM, WN, TM, nearly all forward prospects), and decent depth at LW, so if they were to free up space on a wing, it should be the right. They could get more back for kappy than johnsson, and could probably bring back a better RHD, and it wouldn't even hurt our RW depth by an insane amount.
