Deadline capspace is backwards way of calculating a teams cap space to acquire players prorated contracts at the deadline. Basically at the deadline there are roughly 42 days left in the season so the team that would say acquire them is only paying them for those last 42 days.
Ex. Hall's contract is 6M, there are about 186 days in a season so:
(6M / 186 days) * 42 Days = 1.4M
Zo if you have 1 4M in cap space now, you can acquire Hall at the deadline.
Deadline cap space is essentially the total of each day you are under the cap and not using LTIR, your extra cap space.
