It is pointless debating logic with somebody who is so set in their views like you are. So I won't. If that is your view of Connor Murphy, you are incorrect in your assessment. He would instantly become one of if not the Leafs best defensman.

I'll admit Chicago has some homers on here for sure but the Leafs homers here are the worst. There is no logic with some of them and it's useless to debate. Perfect example is thinking Ceci and Murphy are even or close to it.

No thats not what Im saying. Think we can get a better deal with another team just using Lehner. I.E. conditional first and prospect.

My bad sorry. Wouldn't even need to be a conditional 1st and prospect. Lehner is worth a 1st and prospect or 1st and 3rd or 4th all day to a team contending; like Carolina. All I'm saying is the Hawks need a speedy winger or two and getting Kap and Johnsson both would be perfect forward thinking and then bid to sign Lehner in the offseason. Then essentially we are giving up Muprhy, Nylander and Shaw for Kap and Johnsson which is pretty fair. That said, as I said earlier, maybe Leafs add a 4th, but think this works for both teams. For the Leafs it's what they need to better contend in the playoffs and for the Hawks we prepare for next season.

Exactly. We are on the same page here for sure. Waste of time with certain people.

I have however had some great debates and discussions recently with some really solid posters. (Very few were Leafs fans). I will include you in that group! Thanks for taking the time dude. Appreciate your efforts. Cheers.

I don't like it. I think A Nylander isn't very good and Shaw's contract I am not a fan of. Is Murphy that much better than Ceci?

Why not Johnsson for Lehner with a balanced cap hit?

Murphy is significantly better than Ceci, Murphy is the style of defender that will complement Riellys offensive game while also covering Reillys defensive deficiencies.

This is an interesting trade to me...Hawks fan... It really does help solve some of our bigger problems. Hawks could also still go for Lehner as a UFA again. It's really a cap neutral trade going forward into the following few years. The value is there. What I have a harder time getting around is that the Hawks have a bigger issue than speedy wingers. Solid Dmen on good contracts. It's harder to get a solid Dman under $4M. There are speedy wingers out there...maybe not as good as Kap, but they're easier to find and easier to develop. I fully understand you need to give to get...I'm just not convinced this makes the Hawks a better team going forward. I'm in @CFMan 's camp. Trade Lehner for picks/prospects. Allow Murphy to help develop the Boqvists/Mitchells/Beaudins into true NHL dmen for the long term.

That's not true. Bottom 4, top 4...how about middle pair? lol Anyway, Murphy is easily a top pair on Toronto and a 2nd pairing on most teams. Ceci is a 3rd pairing on most teams and $2M overpaid. Murphy is one of the most underrated defensive players in the league...he's not only an awesome defender he's tough.

Being top pair on a team that doesn't have a legit top pair RHD doesn't make a guy a legit top pair RHD. So regardless of what Murphy would be in TO, he isn't a top pair defenceman and isn't worth the same as one. He's a 2nd pair guy, #4 and is worth exactly that.

Yeah Murphy is better than Rielly, Muzzin, or Barrie. Come on, what has Murphy ever done to deserve any of that praise.

So says capfriendly but the reality is he is just another Zaitsev but better. He's a tad, better than Ceci but he's not great.

He's a very solid #3 guy to half the teams in the league. You haven't paid enough attention or watched enough of Murphy based on the comments you are making here. Murphy is worth 1st plus or at worst a 2nd and 3rd...somewhere within that range depending on team. Ceci isn't worth more then a 3rd at best or more likely a 4th. That's a big difference in value which pretty much says it all. Now factor in that murphy is still only 26 and his play has been getting better, not worse and not leveling off. Bottom line, Hawks aren't trading murphy for peanuts, he and Kap are of very similar value and if you watched both equally, you would agree there is no bias in that statement.

He's Adam Larsson, he's responsible defensively but nothing special when it comes to anything particular but good on the pk and doesn't hurt you ever. Good to have but nothing special.

No, he's also a good shot blocker and extremely strong on the boards and in front of the net in his own zone. Adam Larsson doesn't quite bring that the way Murphy does IMO. Like i said, Ceci is worth a 3rd at best and a 4th more likely. Murphy is worth a 1st plus or at worst a 2nd and 3rd. There is significant difference in value between Ceci and Murphy.

I agree. Sadly, the insight and opinion is wasted on those who only hear what they want to hear.
