If we're concerned about what he gets that means he's rebounded and it's a good thing.

In regards to your statement about D there are only so many options and because there are so few they'll likely cost

Hamonic is an option but I suspect he stays in the prairies as all of Calgary, Winnipeg and Edmonton would be happy with him and he has been reported to have requested a trade to the prairies before

Bodie could work, but isn't anything special.

Barrie as we see doesn't really make sense and will cost more

Krug will cost more.

DeMelo, TVR and the like could be interesting at 2ish million but that means we sign Holl and Dermott could cover the top Rd.

Who is this 4 mil Rd you are happy playing with Rielly?

Any chance you think DeMelo accepts a Mayfield type contract?

If it’s a smart trade yes, but this isn’t just a cap dump trade.... you’re asking for something back in it, something that has pretty decent value too...

How about Ceci and a 3rd for FC?
Columbus can then retain on Ceci and flip him to a desperate team for a 3rd at the deadline.

Yes. I'm saying Toronto should add a 2nd it would be fair. Johnsson has good value as a 45ish point scorer making around 3 million with term

Uh...do you skate well? Lol
I suppose I can be talked into putting Mik or Moore there. It also depends on how much you believe Anderson can turn the season around.

No, but I'm sure Matthews could make me look good too lol. I would actually hope that Anderson doesn't turn his season around even after we hypothetically trade for him because it would make his next contract cheaper, then he can start producing next year. He's shown what he can do in the past especially in the playoffs last year plus he's from Burlington and his family is leaf fans so I think it would motivate him to play better and I think he would play better.

Truthfully, I wanna flip Kapanen+ for the D to pair with Rielly if Hamonic doesnt join us.
I am in love with Ducks trade though, would love Ducks to throw in towel and a accept that trade.

Would you slightly overpay to get it done???

I dont have issue with Holl returning, he has played well and earned it.

Barrie and Krug will be too money.

Thoughts on Schultz? Do you think gets too much as well?

Any change on your position in Gudas?

Gudas has never played more than 18.5 minutes a night. He plays the style that q lot want but he just isn't a top 3 dman. Hes a number 4 or 5.

Schultz is interesting. I don't know enough about him

Just realized Anderson is an RFA.
Not worried on how much he gets???

I think we can get a decent D via free agency for 4 million next off season.

No I'm not worried about how much he get based on his play this season. He also has the same agent as Marner (can't think of his name right now just keep thinking Borris lol).

I hope so but I don't like our chances.

No one playing with Matthews has ever scored 30 goals...

I know I was just joking

Guys name is Boras I believe and Anderson did hold out a bit a couple years ago.

He's also the guy they were apparently trying to protect from Vegas when they made them take W Karlsson and Clarkson's contract and gave them a first to do it. All to protect Anderson...

Karlsson was misjudged by alot and I think he took team friendly deal as well.

What Anaheim deal? If you want a top pair RHD it probably starts with Nylander unless we're adding alot more to Kap. I don't mind Holl returning depending on price. And I wouldn't give Gudas $4mill.

I like it but like I said in the thread I don't think the Ducks get enough value back to make it worth their while.

I'm a huge fan of gudas. He truly is dirty but he is very underrated defensively and would compliment rielly perfectly. He is able to move the puck up the ice with control (he doesnt have the best controlled zone exit percentage but the sheer quantity of times he gets the puck out is very good). No one wants to go into the corners with him cause he might brain you at any second and no matter who hes played with he always gets positive results. With a guy like rielly you dont need to be a number 2 or 3, you just need to be good defensively and are able to move the puck. Gudas has good gap control and suppresses shots well- two of rielly's biggest weaknesses. He provides very little offensively but if the leafs were able to staple hi to rielly in the DZ playing 18 minutes a night there (plus time on the pk) then move someone like holl or dermott to take a shift with rielly in the oz they would be very well off.
Being able to run
Rielly-gudas
Muzzin-holl
Dermott-Barrie
Gives them 3 extremely strong pairs with very good depth.

Gudas would be like hainsey except gudas is able to keep up and is overall much better so we wouldn't see them caved in all the time

With the results he has gotten against 2nd and 3rd lines there is no reason he cant. That kind of thinking is like thinking alexis lafreniere shouldn't be drafted because hes never scored an nhl goal.

No. One is a teenager who hasn't had the opportunity to play in the NHL.

The other is a 9 year NHL veteran who coaches have never played against tough competition. You can't assume he will be able to. You can hope I suppose. But gambling on a 30 year old NHL defenseman being able to do something he's never done before seems like a terrible way to approach free agency

Coaches are often wrong. If we are looking at past accomplishments holl shouldn't be in the nhl but he is playing very well and has shown that he can be a #4 defenseman. He wouldn't be expected to put up a ton of points, he would just play good defensively like he has all throughout his career. He has never played with good defenseman for long periods of time so Morgan rielly should make him look great. Quality of linemates is more important then quality of competition.

Because he has never played in a 1st pairing role he wont be able to ask for to much but there are far worse players who have done well playing on the 1st pair playing with guys like morgan rielly

Sure coaches can be wrong. And you can always hope your own guys internally will evolve beyond what they've proven.

But it is a terrible idea to acquire a 29 year old for potential.
