A few ideas

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 9, 2019
Published: Dec. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MIN #1: Penguins get a winger to play alongside Sid. Bjugstad, a MIN native, gets a chance to play top 6 minutes and regain his form. Hallander and 2nd are added value
MIN #2: Donato and Chucky are thrown in. Donato is put on the 3rd line alongside Kahun and McCann. MIN showcases Chucky until the deadline and tries to salvage picks/prospects.
TBL: Penguins get a winger for Sid and a 3rd liner. They would have the Joseph brothers. Tampa gets cap space past this season, which is big for them.
OTT: Penguins can either play Pageau on Sid's RW or make him the 3C. Ottawa gets picks/prospect and also showcases Chucky in hopes of salvaging picks at deadline.
DET: Penguins get speedy winger for Sid. Detroit gets pick/prospect and same thing happens with Chucky.

Would any of these make sense? I think most of these players would look great in a Pens uniform.

donato is more valuable than galchenyuk by a good margin. I know hes been bad but hes shown it last season, and the wild arent competitive so it wouldnt make sense to swap an older centre for a younger one.

Wings pass as they need defense not another forward

I feel like MN trade 2 is close. Can you tell me what you know about Hallander.

I'm pretty high on him, but good two way second line center ceiling, high end 3C floor if he recovers well from injury imo

Thanks! In that case though I think the Wild pass. Got enough young 3rd and 4th line centers in system.

To me, they are more suited for the wing. Chucky has been limited to roughly 10 mins a night or less and is playing at a 40 point pace. Donato, to me, is very streaky, so I think that a 3rd line role with the Pens would be ideal. Thats just my opinion.

If the deal is made months in advance, and the acquiring team has those few months to showcase him, I think it could be a good risk. If he plays well, they could get a solid return for him. There is a risk and I get why it could be avoided, but some teams might want to take the risk and hope to get a bigger return. Chucky is a solid player, I wish he would get some games on Sid's wing to see how he would progress.

I feel like MN trade 2 is close. Can you tell me what you know about Hallander.

Hallander seems like a solid prospect. He hasn't played much this year, but his stats last year seemed good. I think he has good potential.

Wings pass as they need defense not another forward

I said this all summer before the year started. Every detroit poster kept telling me they would play their prospects and they were fine.
You could tell what was going to happen the whole time. The starting lineup looked like a collection of fine china about to have a bull released through it. You knew they would all be on IR by mid season.
There are multiple teams going to have to rebuild at least 1/2 their defense next year. DET, TOR, WPG just off the top of my head will be looking to bring in like 2-3 guys a piece.
This off season is going to be insane for defense men contracts. There is going to be demand and not much available.

I agree. Galchenyuk is a UFA at the end of the season and Detroit won't be good enough to convince him to stay. So from Detroit's point of view he doesn't have a lot of value.

I think Chucky would be more of someone who they play in the top 6 with hopes of moving by the deadline, but I get why they say no.

I agree the defense core is a Mash unit these days. Only Hronek and Cholowski are the only kids that have played worth keeping. McIllrath is sub par, Bowey was just put on waivers and Hicketts is a 7th defenseman at best. They have some guys in the system and it will take 2 to years for them to mature. In the mean time they like almost 50% of the teams will be trying to improve the back end core.

                      Wings defense in 2020/21

Dekeyser, Nemeth, Hronek, Cholowski, Sieder? & a mystery. That is where I believe Yzerman will wheel and deal to get a player.
