This SJ TOR trade just makes too much sense

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2019
Published: Dec. 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TOR's desperately thin at defense and Dillon provides that defensive defenseman type of top-4 depth as a heavy, hard-hitting but still smart and experienced dman. Melker provides excellent bottom-6 forward penalty killing and defensive depth as a right-hand shot to replace Kasperi down there, with Gambrell as a decent but experienced prospect with upside who could flourish with a change in scenery. Plus some cap relief for TOR with the retentions.

Kapanen provides that skilled middle-six forward depth on the right-side that SJ desperately needs in its lineup. But besides his value right now to the team, which he brings here, he's also young and so even if the Sharks end up rebuilding(ish), he's an asset for that ends as well, and the 4th rounder from Vegas (with TOR retaining its own 4th) is a good piece that SJ needs in this upcoming deep draft without its own 4th (or 1st...).

Garbage trade for the Leafs. Kappy for another LHD that also happens to be an UFA?

I love how fans just listen to what the media narrative is. Toronto is not "desperately thin" on D

If the Leafs are desperately think on defence they sure wouldn't be trading their 7th Dman just to acquire a 6th Dman at the expense of Kapanen. Aren't the Leafs thin on wing, with Johnsson, Mikheyvov and Moore injured?

Nope. Lots of wingers in the organization. I still wouldn't make that trade. Better options out there. Marincin is trash though.

You are mistaken. Looking at this lineup Dillon is your 3rd D

Reilly, Muzzin, Dermot seem to locks on the LHD. Barrie and Holl at RHD. So now does Dillon really help at the expense of Ceci and Kapanen?

Agreed, Leafs are not moving Kapanen for this.

Trading a 23 yr old speedy winger for a soon to be UFA Dman makes too much sense to you? This would be like asking for Meier for Ceci lol. Except kapanen signed for about half the money and Dillon a left shot not right. Still make too much sense?
