2020-21 RFAs

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2020
Published: Jan. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Bracco and Timashov will get traded, I really like Timashov so this sucks.

Mikheyev, because of the injury I think he signs only 1 year show me deal.

Dermott, I think he will be bridged now to 2 year deal to sign him long term after... bridging him on 2 years keeps him as RFA.

Engvall, I think he will also be bridged but to a 3 year deal.
Small chance he signs also a 1 year deal at 925k but I am betting on him signing for 3 years.

Double K, I think he will signed to be the goalie exposed to Seattle as Woll and Scott show potential to surpass him.

Gauthier, he has earned a new deal with Leafs with his increased speed as that was the knock on him in the past.

I signed some other guys that I think will be useful if injuries happen which they always do.

I do not think every RFA will be back.

Would love to hear others input on these.

I think they should have lost more picks
Money is irrelevant I think, gave the max fine possible under MLB.

I agree on Corra, he needs to GTFO.

boston fan, lets talk baseball for a sec lol. Houston didnt get enough of a whack. theyve been doing it for years. I think houston also put A TON of the blame on the guy thats not in their organization. Like oh he left us for a rival lets blame him and screw the red sox too sorta deal! I think the redsox are now in a catch 22 where if they fire cora it looks like they were cheaters here and if they dont fire cora it could be a worse punishment for the red sox. Also i read somewhere that Dombrowski may or may not have been leaking info to the media on the redsox stuff.

I agree on all accounts. I would have liked to see goat signed in the off-season to $700-750k but I wouldn't go higher than a mill even then $900k would be more comfortable but I don't see him being a problem to sign. With Engvall, it's all depending on what he's asking for if he's not willing to sign a reasonable deal than I'd explore the trade market because both Johnsson and Kapanen offer us cost certainty going forward. It was just an outside the box idea and don't get me wrong, I love his game and want to keep him just saying if he's not willing to sign a reasonable deal than I'd explore what other teams are willing to give up for him.

Engvall isn't going to fetch the Leafs much in the trade market simply because of Pleasebanme's point of only having 25-30 games in the NHL. Not enough sample size for any team to offer up anything worth alot value.

I agree that I would have liked to see more picks but $5mill is irrelevant but $25-50mill would make Crane think twice before trying some ish like this again IMO.

Even if Corra only gets a one year band also (which I just can't see considering he spearheaded the whole thing), but either way nobody is going to hire him after his roll in all this. I wonder what @oneX thanks about this?

The investigation was held by the MLB and they said Corra spearheaded it from the coaching side. I know it sucks to find out news like this but this is what they're saying. I should note as a Blue Jays fan that this doesn't taint the organization just Corra at least until further details come out but it doesn't taint the Red Sox image just those involved.

I'm curious as to what team you root for? I mean you can go and watch the greatest player on planet earth pretty much whenever you want and the Dodgers are no joke either. I really like the Padres myself and the A's are tied for my second favourite team (3-way tie between the Mariners, Pirates and As). And who can forget about the Giants I know they just lost Madbum and aren't in a good place right now but such is the life of the baseball cycle.

I get that, I was just saying if he is tough to deal with on a new contract than it might be better to explore the trade market for him and keep the two cost certainty players that everyone wants to jettison out of town. It was an outside the box thought that I had and I know it's a small sample size but if teams are in the market for AJ or Kap than I think they'd have interest in Engvall too.

The Red Sox, Yankees (under Boon) and I'm sure there's a lot more but those are the other two that I can think of off the top of my head.

I feel the punishment from a draft point of view was not enough. Money means nothing as a fine to Crane who is a millionaire, even 25-30 million fine means nothing to him. That's probably pocket change for him tbh.

More draft picks penalization would have been a stronger message. Now...I'm not sure if fans (myself included) should feel cheated about the Houston and Boston world series wins.

The Red Sox and Astros are the only teams that have been caught. If there are more teams, they will probably stop now because at least the commissioner is making attempts to deter this stuff.

As with my local hockey teams, I cheer for both. My roots with the Dodgers go back much further, though, because my grandfather was a catcher in the Brooklyn Dodgers' farm system before enlisting in the Army in 1917.

You bet! However, it's not clear to me what punishment is actually available here. I would think that the least that could be done is vacate the two World Series wins against the Dodgers. But then I sound like a whining homer.

When I was in high school, the Angels were formed and my granduncle immediately got season tickets, so when I would come out here from NY in the summer I would go to a lot of those games. I remember the one glory year of Dean Chance and Bo Belinsky pretty well. Well, no I don't -- the Sixties intervened -- but you get the picture.

Back to hockey now...

Pick one of the following:

Trade for UFA D man

OR

Trade for D man you envision being Rielly's partner for next year and beyond

Personally, I would have liked to see a minimum of 3 1sts but I can live with the picks part. I know Crane's a millionaire but $50mill is still a steep price to pay $45million more to be exact. We all know he don't care about Hinch and Luhnow's ban but if the financial penalty was more severe than I would imagine he'd think twice about who he's hiring. Maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deterrent but the whole $5mill is a complete joke and at least $50mill would hold some merit IMO.

I agree, but if the players get punished it will make it harder to get their cooperation in the future IMO, but it does piss me off that they get off scot-free.

What would you have liked to see done? I wanted Crane to get a $50mill fine but I get the max amount is $5 mill.... I just think that's a joke of a fine and I wanted to see 3 first's but am fine with the 2 1sts and 2nds.

You don't sound like a whining homer me @Trickster and @oneX are Jay's fans and are pretty pissed about this whole situation.... I can only imagine how the Dodgers organization and fans are taking this.

It musta been pretty fun to watch them from their inaugural season! Lots of great year's but for the last 5-6 years I can't help but think how far they could go if they'd just go and get a couple of Aces. I know you guys got Otani but man this team shoots itself in the foot every off-season although it should be fun to see what Madden can do with this team. Say any chance you would be interested in trading us that bum in center field...you know that fish guy... Lol... Don't worry I'll stop lol. A guy can dream right?

Yeah, but I don't think the Dodgers would want it like that... Don't get me wrong they should be dubbed WS champs twice but I think they'd rather earn it so to speak.
