Brodin instead of Zucker

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2020
Published: Jan. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Zucker is the main subject of trade talks. And he is very good. But if I had to pick one player to add, it would be Brodin.

This trade fixes the biggest hole the team has defensively and makes them an eiite defensive team.

He's putting up even better defensive numbers than John Marino (who is already elite defensively), plays either side well,, kills penalties, and is not Jack Johnson.

This also allows Pettersson to play more sheltered minutes, where he did very well last year.

Riikola is actually having a pretty solid as a third pairing guy in limited minutes against easier competition. He skates well, hits, and has a hard shot. However, Sullivan doesn't seem particularly high on him and would rather play Jack Johnson or go with 4 RD instead of playing him (This happened before the Schultz injury). Makes sense to move him.

He doesn't allow anything in front of the net, holy sh*t that's insane

Also: "and is not Jack Johnson." Very very true

I think you’re confused - Canes called dibs on Brodin. Respect the process

I'm sorry but you'll have to settle for Jack Johnson or Cody Ceci.

Honestly pretty solid trade, and I'm happy some on this site are finally realizing Brodin is more than a 2nd pairing player. My only gripe is that the Wild are pretty set on defenseman, which is why we'd be trading Brodin in the first place, so adding Riikola wouldn't make a ton of sense. Swap him out for a forward prospect (Hallander, Legare, or Puolin) and it would fit the Wild's needs more. If you feel those prospects have more value than Riikola, feel free to take out Miletic.

Take Jack Johnson’s contract, and I would be willing to add one of those good prospects and a third.
