I think we've all gotten off topic here. Please ban me doesn't agree that Benning and a 2nd is fair value for Johnsson.

More that I don't see how it helps us now or in the future. Its a lateral move on the blueline and a 2nd for a top 6 forward that could be used for a better move.

They what the hell are you even talking about? If you aren't defending the trade, what is the point of commenting? And how is it not defending the trade by posting a page and a half worth of supporting "Evidence" to suggest that Benning is something very worthwhile? What is the point of any of this?

You suggested Benning doesn't play top-4 and had no value. I proved you wrong. That's it.

I think Johnsson can be used in a bigger trade for an actual upgrade. This is just a lateral move.

I tried to stay away from the usual trade proposals and targets I see here, horse has been beat there. Dubus doesn't really do anything "normal" and Leafs have been real quiet on their targets, I've heard a few rumblings of them looking at fill in options until the offseason

You sort of did, Benning does not consistently play top 4 minutes, you're hopeful he does, sometimes he does, but really he doesn't

Who are you targeting to improve the Leafs defense

I never said he had no value, I said he doesn't offer much of an upgrade over Ceci, which is why I wouldn't move Johnsson for Benning and a guy who would be hard pressed to make the Leafs. Remember when you were throwing around the word Ignorance?

Keefe, lol

He needs to get the team understanding the balance of when its smart to take a chance offensively and when its better to just dump it in and regroup. Giving up ten bell chances all the time is getting old and that isn't the defensemans fault as much as its the whole team not always playing proper systems. People on this site don't understand hockey though, they just read lazy reports and think that a guy like Savard is going to change everything. It won't, the whole team needs to play better defence, when they do, they are a very hard team to play against.

And here we go, the whole "Any RHD is the best RHD in TO" No, Holl and Barrie are better and Ceci is probably just as good.

Sure keep telling yourself that those 3 are better. In fact they are so good, you should keep what you got and resign Ceci for next year for another 4 or 5 million. We will resigne benning to 2.5 and keep him

He has played 1250 minutes in the top-4 over the past 3 years. That's fact. Not "sort of" or "hopeful" - it's a fact.

You should stop now, Benning becomes Ceci if he's chucked top 4 minutes night in and night out

Or, TO can just let Ceci walk and replace with something better. Does anyone actually think Ceci is going to get anywhere close to that?

Oh? If these comments don't suggest you think he has "no value", I don't know what does.

"Benning and Khaira are marginal NHLers"

"Playing bottom pair minutes on a bad team. Cool"

"Benning isn't a lock to be anything more than a 6/7 defenceman."

"... Ceci is probably just as good."

tears of joy

Might of been Copenhagen

Yes it was me, I am happy and ok with my right side of Yamamoto and Kassian, I am not ok with 20 goal scorer Neal on my left side and thats where I would fix the problem. So situation is keep Neal as first line left wing and get Kapnanen for example or keep Kassian as 1st RW and get a good left winger. I know what I would do. Obviously you guys are welcome to your own opinion on what you would go. You would keep Neal and I think thats wrong. Cant have both with only 3 million in cap space.

Edmonton needs a top-6 LW more than it needs a top-6 RW, IMO. Mostly due to the emergence of Yamamoto and the fact that Lavoie is trending well in the Q (he's probably 1.5 years out, though - Holland will give him a year in the AHL), but also due to the current roster at LW. Benson might help...

10000000% agree, the left side is hurting with Neal on the top line, I think we should buy him out next year as we have crappy Chaisson at a lower rate who can do what Neal does on the PP really

All of that says that I don't see Benning as an upgrade over what we already have. That does not at all suggest I think he's terrible and without value. I stand by all I have said, and to sum it up, I think Johnsson is worth more than this return. Only a fool would see those words written and then suggest the person who wrote them meant other things. You are doing that because when you make someone elses words ridiculous, it makes your words seem more reasonable regardless of how silly they are to begin with.

Benning is a nice depth defenceman, nothing more. He's a 6/7 defenceman. Just like Ceci. That doesn't make someone worthless, which also was never said.

Crazy talk? Really? Benning is a bottom pair depth defender. That's what he is. That is his value. Of course, leave it to ridiculous homers to call anyone who doesn't gush over their favourite teams players to hear, "He's a terrible player" whenever anyone doesn't agree with them. You guys are just silly.

You don't watch the Leafs, or Ceci. You have said many things to prove this. For example, you once said Ceci is an all offensive player, that says it all. He's never been that and clearly hasn't been that in TO. So you don't watch. You are an Oilers fan and watch Oiler games. Which is all fine, I have no problem with that. In fact, I think its great! I like the Oilers too. Own that.

Just stop talking about other things as if you know what you are saying when you very clearly only read comments on here and think they are accurate.

Ceci is a bottom pair defender on a tonne of NHL teams. Most likely. What he isn't is a top pair defender, and not a good 2nd pair guy either. If he made 1.5-2 million, no one would be upset with him. Ceci is an pretty good penalty killer and he certainly doesn't hurt you much when he's playing sheltered 3rd pair minutes. Kind of like Benning. Definitely a guy that can be useful but certainly not someone you want playing against top competition.

Wouldn't that make Johnsson more attractive to you guys then? Since he's proven to be an effective top 6 guy in TO, a team with a tonne of forward depth?

Yes he is way more attractive than Kapanen, even though I love Kapanen way more
