One Last Off the Cuff Pass at the Brodin Idea

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2019-20 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2020
Published: Feb. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The object here is to construct a trade that does NOT give up Trocheck and thereby weaken Florida for the stretch run and playoffs. Thus the Panthers roster remains essentially unchanged, plus they also get a power forward prospect in addition to the top-4 LD that Tallon has announced he is looking for. (Pysyk is there for cap reasons.) Meanwhile, Minnesota gets another first-round pick in a bountiful draft, a good-quality right-handed forward in Acciari and a potential #2C. Minnesota could add as much as a 2020 fourth or 2021 third to balance any overweight perceived by Florida fans.

I don't get the sense the Wild are ready to give up on Greenway and we certainly don't need more wingers at this point. I could see Brodin for Heponiemi and a first though or some combination thereof

Minnesota needs young centers, Borgstrom would be a good option for them.

I like ideas like this over getting a guy like Trocheck. Florida could use him for a playoff push and teams in their position are better off holding on to roster players while giving up futures. Florida needs to win now before they regret signing Bob.

The problem is the cap situation. Florida has to send cap back in order to absorb Brodin's hit. That in turn means having to balance the on-ice value of the player(s) the Panthers send. Pysyk doesn't require much if anything because he's a UFA, but Florida is entitled to quite a bit in return for Acciari.

So leave Acciari out of it, Pysyk for cap reasons. So Brodin for Heponiemi, Pysyk and a 1st. Done deal assuming florida doesn't need cap retention or something

The difference between Brodin's hit and Pysyk's is $1.4MM and the Panthers have less than $340,000 in room. Retention would be fine except that, too, comes at a price.

Only thing I don't like is that there's a chance we flip Greenway to the Rangers for Georgiev this offseason, so I'd hope we hang onto him at least until the offseason. It all depends on how Kahkonen plays, though.

I'd pass for MN.

I'd rather have Greenway than Heponiemi. One is a NHLer and one is a pipsqueak wing that isn't doing much so far in the AHL.

Acciari is a fairly paid 3/4C but nothing more. Pysyk adds nothing.
