Description
I will listen to the consensus which told me, rightly so, that Barkov isn't going anywhere. So on to the other options... I tried to make a trade for Hintz work but there is just no way. Dallas just isn't a fit for a number of reasons. Nor does Schmaltz look like a fit. So...on to plan D.

The idea here:
I wanted Suzuki here but given the choice, I suspect Montreal moves on from Domi. They desperately need a 1st line RW and have a successor to Domi in the aforementioned Suzuki so this looks like a fit. Also, how much do they want to get rid of Alzner? I assume he'd wave to go anywhere. They're also loaded on picks. Jake McCabe helps shore up the left side at least a bit. As the Sabres, I only take this in the hopes it will solve the 2C issue. Domi regressed in a big way last year so he's not a safe bet.

Maybe the Sabres need to make a better move to address the left side of the defense than signing Gilmour. Can use 2nd rounders for that instead of signing him.

Damn. Great point. Push the 1st out a year and maybe add a 3rd or 4th this year.

I wouldn't do this if I was MTL. I know to most people seeing Alzner there makes you think we are dying to get rid of him but in reality, we aren't even using up to the ceiling with our cap anyway so the need to get rid of him so that we can use that cap elsewhere isn't necessary.

If the cost to get rid of Alzner is any form of asset, there is no need for them to trade him. Just be patient and let his contract die out. So adding Alzner to any deal isn't "helping us".

Like McCabe and Rienhart but no way is it costing both Domi and the 1st this year. Or at least I wouldn't be willing to pay that price.

I agree with a couple things, like Domi and this year's 1st wouldn't happen and Montreal has plenty of space to just keep Alzner.
However, with 14 picks this year and 10 next year, I don't think it's even possible to take that many players on. So using a couple picks (not a 1st) to get someone to take Alzner wouldn't surprise me at all.

Having the picks, doesn't mean you expect all of them to be NHL'ers. No team ever signs ALL of their draft picks. Having that many is used to have more chances at getting NHL players. Frankly even just using those picks assets for trading is better off than using it to get rid of Alzner. Teams also have plenty of time to sign players, they don't need sign them right away either.

Cap space is the last thing MTL needs. I would rather have less cap space than less chances at drafting a good player. Like I said, we aren't even using all of the available cap space anyway so moving Alzner gains us nothing. Habs are a rich team, they aren't struggling to make money. They are one of worst teams at attracting big free agents so its not like they have players lining up to come here.

They don't need to do this. If circumstances change than this stance will change. As of right now, using assets to get rid of Alzner literally benefits nothing on ice product related.

Your opinion, not fact. Offensively they're pretty much the same, difference being one plays with Arturri Lehkonen and the other Jack Eichle, one also plays a more valuable position as a center compared to wing. So in all I'd take Domi over Samy any day

Not so clear any more. Even if the draft is eventually held in the Bell Centre*, we may be treated to the spectacle of an empty house.

* How about that for the end to a dismal season -- a draft conducted remotely?
