I'm guessing Ducks fans will not be pleased with your offer.

This assumes (hopes) the Sabres get Dell in free agency, but I expect the Sharks will re-sign him.

You would be assuming correctly.

I think the Anaheim deal has been covered...

Why does Buffalo want Ryan? You might be able to get a better package than that just keeping Johansson to the trade deadline.

Anaheim doesn't give you the 37th overall pick for Miller and your seventh (not to mention Dallas'). As for Rakell vs. Mittelstadt, there is nothing yet to indicate that your guy will stick in the NHL, whereas Rakell is a top-6 winger.

As I recall, you paid a second and a fifth for Miller, and half your fanbase thinks he's not very good. So we'd give you that fourth we got for Derek Grant but nothing more. We don't need Mittelstadt because we have Sam Steel, Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras coming up next season behind Getzlaf and Henrique.

I don’t even think he’s an upgrade on Johansson either
I don’t get bringing in an average 3C to play 2C for us
Weird

If you're going to bring in someone to play 2C for only one year, why not try Derek Stepan from Arizona? He has more than twice the cap hit of Ryan, but he's probably got a better year in him and the Coyotes would probably be glad to move him -- he might cost you only Johansson. You've got room under the cap and you get to keep Pilut (assuming you can shuffle off Hutton).

P.S. {edit} But those figures for Olofsson and Kahun may be optimistic.

You really don't want to go by what the Sabres fan base thinks. At least half of them are morons so mentioning this really doesn't tell us anything or help your point.

I sympathize with your feelings, but please be careful -- I once got reported and disciplined for referring to a third person in a comment a moron.

Stephan is a better player than Ryan,
but I’d still prefer more of a legit 2C than either of them

I think many salaries will be less than expected
With the Cap most likely not going up, you’ll see a lot of 1 year deals get made for less than we’d think
But those deals do seem low to me

Same reason I still block shots in beer league hockey. Grew up watching VHS of the Best of Bobby Orr ad nauseum. It's now too deeply ingrained in my neural pathways to expunge.

Indifferent to the Patriots.

Point taken on the Anaheim deal. I'll try again.

I am a still a newbie when it comes to hockey. I have lost all interest in pro football the past 5 years or so, and hockey has helped fill the void. I have no connection to Buffalo (I am actually from Indiana - not exactly a hockey state!), but have adopted the Sabres as my team - I like to cheer for the small market underdogs who keep fighting despite the odds stacked against them, and Buffalo fits that to a T. Still hoping to see the Sabres play in person - possibly @ Detroit or Columbus next fall. Seeing a game at Key Bank Center would be even better, but it's a little too far with work and family commitments.

jdfitz77 - I recognize your name from hockeybuzz and respect your opinions there. You stood up for the LOG line and I couldn't agree more. I hope we can get Larry and Z back for a reasonable amount. Yes, Okposo is overpriced, but he at least found a useful role with that line.

My apologies -- I should have checked your Profile before commenting (as I usually do) and welcomed you to CapFriendly. Most of the time it is, indeed, friendly.

If this is a new enterprise for you, one thing you might try before making any trades with any other team(s) is to check half a dozen or more recent constructions of the other team(s) and see if a common thread emerges. For example, check any 5 Anaheim or Toronto team posts and you'll see that both teams (or at least their fans) are desperately seeking RD's. Edmonton guys want quality wingers to accompany McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins. Minnesota guys (who are uniformly more courteous than any other fanbase on here) are looking for a right-handed forward or three. And so on.

Welcome to CapFriendly!
