Spurgeon is a top 10 D in the NHL - the term isn’t great but he’s worth more than 7.5 mill right now.

I will agree on the right now. That exact comment was probably made when they signed Ryan Suter .

Not really the same, everyone knows you shouldn't sign players to massive, what was it, 14? Year deals... Spurgeon's is "only" 7

Tbh I'd take Spurgeon before Victor Rask

Did spurgeon sign a 13 year contract at 12.56 of the cap? No? Ok then

This post is adorable considering Loui Eriksson, Kyle Okposo, Andrew Ladd, and Karl Alzner all exist. Say whatever you want about the contracts above, but the players all belong in the NHL unlike the guys I've listed who are making good money to either be in the minors or put up points that a 4th liner could produce.

So many bad goalie contracts for such a fluky position.

I recall the Parise and Suter signings and the presser for both of them when they were introduced to Minny. At the time, those were pretty big contracts, but, when healthy, both contracts are looking like pretty decent value these days, especially Suter's. Zuccarello's deal might be higher than fans would like, but their now fired-GM had to bid high to get him. I mean, he's fired now, so clearly some of these contract decisions caught up to him in not-such-a-great way :P

Fenton didn't get fired because of any contract or trade he did. He was fired because he was REALLY bad at being the head of an organization. He made staff hate coming to work, he yelled at people when rumors leaked and isolated the analytics department until both of the people they had left. Leipold is a pretty hands on owner and he saw the culture he wanted in his organization being ruined, so he made a change. Leipold would have given him a lot more slack than 1 year if he was a good leader.
