Crazy offseason blockbusters with CGY and BUF

Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 22, 2020
Published: Apr. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
You might ask why should SJ sign 2 player who can play on the PP when you already have Karlsson... well the answer is simple: Karlsson gets injured pretty often and since that his physical capabilities have already fallen off a cliff, signing 2 d-men who can play PP minutes can help to reduce EK's ice time.

Conditional 2022 4th rounder: becomes a 2022 3rd rounder if CGY makes it to the 2021 WCF... Sharks still get the 2022 4th rounder if CGY wins the cup in 2021

SJ gets a bunch of picks, one being of course a first rounder and a very solid young top6 forward who has the potential to become a 20-25 goals player as soon as next season

Thx for the idea Ledge and Dairy :)
BUF
  1. Hertl, Tomas
Additional Details:
BUF gets exactly what they need: an offensive minded center who can be a point per game player
2.
3.
SJS
  1. Mangiapane, Andrew [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 1st round pick (CGY)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (CGY)

CGY
  1. Burns, Brent ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
CGY gets a slightly younger d-man than Giordano and that's actually the whole point of the trade... since Giordano already seems to be declining and since that this doesn't really seem to be the case for Burns, then CGY gets 2 more years to chase a cup.
4.
SJS
  1. 2021 5th round pick (ANA)

6.
SJS
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
SJ gets a somewhat cap dump and a starter

Trade made under a few assumptions...
1-that there's a CBO
2-that Vegas uses it on Fleury
3-that PIT and Fleury both want to reunite
PIT
  1. 2020 1st round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
PIT gets a first rounder (they don't have their own 20220 1st, gone in the Zucker deal) and gets cap space to make other moves to go all in in 20-21 and 21-22

Sabres 2020 1st is a non-starter
There’s zero chance we trade that pick

I doubt CGY is on Burns 3 team list and Flames arent trading a 1st and a top 6 player for him. They already have depth issues in the top 6 to fix

Sabres would do this trade I think they would try to negotiate a different prospect if we are giving up 6th overall in a loaded draft. Think just about anyone besides cozens. If not I still think that trade goes through. Hertl would be a perfect 2nd center. Makes the sabres playoff contenders right away.

No on the Sabres trade. Possibly 5th overall for hertl? I’ll pass . Throw in timo then we have a deal. It’s a very deep draft this year. I don’t think the Sabres are going to trade a top pick for hertl

Hertl has one year with more than 46 points at age 27.

Not trading this years 1st for him

Hertl is prob worth a late first (20-25), a Mittelstadty prospect, and a 3rd or 2nd. Only 2 years left on his contract.

Well he's got 46 twice and was on pace for over 60 points this season. He's on a great contract for 2 more seasons and is great at faceoffs. This could really help make you guys a playoff team.

If you somehow manage to get 6th overall from BUF (or any team), why trade it to PIT for Murray when you could just sign Lehner, or even Halak or Greiss on short term deals until you get a long-term starter? That way you have a similar goalie production + a great prospect with whomever you pick at 6th overall,

I made a mistake I meant to send TB’s first rounder to PIT... I just fixed it

Sabres definitely pass. Perhaps a '21 first instead could work, but would still be top 10 protected.

Yeah cause your gonna get an elite center for a later pick and a bust. Get outta here go trade for Domi

Gonna keep it real I dont like any of these trades. Mittelstat will never be a top 6 center, and you cant rely on signing 5-6 FA's to fill out your team cause it just wont happen

I wouldn't call a guy that scored over 50 points once in his career an 'elite' center. It's not like I don't like him, but factoring in the fact that he only has 2 years left and he's coming off a pretty bad injury. If the Sabres were on the cusp of winning the Cup, then yeah they make the trade. Realistically though they need more than a 50 point second line center coming off a bad injury.

He was on pace for 63 points on one of the worst teams in the league. You know your downplaying him

Reinhart's has numbers just as good playing on a worse team, is 2 years younger and isn't coming off a horrible injury. No, I don't consider him elite either.
