Tough cap space with comments

Created by: gerowrj16
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 1, 2020
Published: May 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. I believe the right decision would be to keep Montour this upcoming year. If there is big gap on what each side wants in contract, have arbitration decide what he is given on the one year contract and then let him go to Seattle. Having Seattle take him will keep them from taking others that are eligible to be taken.

2. Reinhart agrees to take less money and get bonus's by this performance instead to help the team cap wise (hopefully)

3. Tampa has limited cap space and has only $15 mil. So offer sheet Tampa to put them in a tough cap situation for them to either accept or it will put them more in a tight. Offer Cirelli 4.227 mil and will cut their space to 10.7 mil with to sign 4 RFA and 8 spots total when singing other players or bring up prospects. Either way if it doesn't work out, helps Buffalo.

4. Putting Eichel and Cozens both on the left side on the power play will allow a double threat on the left no matter of who is covered on the left side leaving Olofsson open or vice versa on the other side. Anyways power play could be a big threat.

5. Hutton if a iffy next year due to the FA goaltenders on the market next year.

6. Try to keep Mittelstadt and Thompson for ONE more year and see how they develop in Rochester when Johansson's contract is up to see who can fill the spot or if they can trade them for a top RW forward.

It most likely won't like I said, but puts Tampa in a tighter spot cap wise.

You know tampa was planning on signing cirelli to this contract right? And this is actually cheaper for tampa because of the taxes

To successfully OS a player, you have to first offer them a contract they would accept

Good work, your thoughtful description was a good read. My only qualms are on the contracts. If the intention is to play Mitts and TT in Rochester (which I hope will happen) they would only be 1 year deals and would just be qualifying offers of $874,125. Pilut would not sign that contract, maybe 1-2 years at 1-1.5 mil. Cirelli may sign an offer sheet but it would be one with high AAV and just enough term to carry him to free agency. Something like 5 years 6-7 mil. Anything less dollarwise is easily matched by Tampa. Also I'd like to see if we can't trade Hutton for just about anything and then overpay a FA like Khudobin for 1 year.

Pretty sure Reinhart takes them to the cleaners, he has no interest in this franchise. Also youre going to have to massively over pay Cirelli and hope he is worth the contract. Like 6.5 or 7 mill, to even make TB wince

Why would Anthony Cirelli even consider signing that offer sheet? Cirelli will want closer to either $6.5 or $7.0m to sign an offer sheet with any club. He can accept that offer from Tampa and take home more then he would there in Buffalo. No way Cirelli signs that offer sheet it's just not enugh.

Cirelli wouldn't sign that offersheet. you are limiting his earning power for too long.

Botterill screwed up any chance of offer sheets by trading away our 2021 3rd for Jimmy Vesey.

Try 2 x 4.27 but i doubt he does it and tampa rejoices to lock him in under 5 million

Don't know why you sign it's a discount for Reinhart. That contract makes him the 10th highest paid RWer. While I don't think Cirelli would sign that contract, I don't understand all the love that makes his a 7m player either.

Tampa matches that contract for Cirelli and says thank you for doing the work.
