I think that's an overpayment for Sergachev. Could possibly get him at $6.14M × 3 to 5 yrs (1st and 3rd) or $7.045M × 6 yrs (1st, 2nd, 3rd). I would love to see an offersheet, but realistically TB isn't dumb. I think they will know if there is a chance they will lose Sergachev to an offersheet he will be traded before it comes to that. MTL may make the most sense for a fit, but I also doubt TB will want to trade him to a division rival unless MTL overpays.

Evans is also overpaid here in my opinion, he would take a league minimum contract if it was a one-way.

What do you plan on doing with Tatar, Danault, Gallagher, Armia, Kotkaniemi, Lehkonen, Petry, and Fluery next year? All contracts are up and arguably all players will get raises.

As hard as it would be to move on from Petry and Tatar I think to avoid cap hell when KK gets past his bridge deal and guys like Caufield, Romanov, and this years pick need to be paid after their ELC the safest thing to do is trade them now while the value is there. Where Petry is a few years older you may be able to sign him short term and be alright but if Tatar is looking for 6 years then that might be too risky.

Getting a top guy like Sergachev would go a long way in easing the pain of losing Petry and we have some good young talent coming within two years to take Tatar’s spot. Problem is moving those two likely means another year of no playoffs and could cost Berge his job.

What likely happens is they both get extended and we scramble to keep everyone when it comes time to pay the future.

I like that you brought up Petry, it's something I've thought about specifically when it comes to Sergachev actually. I think MTL and TB could find a deal, Petry (50% retained) for Sergachev (maybe a conditional pick too). For TB, they get a #2 Dman who is affordable (salary retention). Petry and Hedman would be pretty unstoppable. For MTL, they get a younger top defenseman to build around.

I've thought about, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet though. This could be the most realistic way of getting Sergachev back in MTL.

This is all assuming TB can't find a way to make the cap work with Sergachev.
