Sam Bennett

Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2020
Published: May 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This roster has K'Andre Miller starting the year off in the AHL until he is ready to make his debut. When that happens, he'll slide into Brendan Smith's slot on the 3rd pair with Nils Lundkvist and Smith will be an extra skater.
The 3rd line here is dependent on Kravtsov making the team out of camp. He had a chaotic season last year to say the least and while this isn't a make or break season for him, making the team will go a long way towards his confidence and the perception of him moving forward. Very quickly can rumblings start about him being a bust before the age of 20, similar to the way Lias Andersson was treated and is now talked about.
If Kravtsov does NOT make the team out of camp, Gauthier moves over to the RW, Lemiuex moves up to the 3rd line and Di Giuseppe moves into the 4th line LW role until Kravtsov can prove he is ready.

    NOT A TRADE!!!!
I firmly believe if the cap remains the same due to the loss in revenue this season, teams will be granted one amnesty buyout. Rangers will use this on Marc Staal

You probably would rather have Dube than Bennett though I would think

Bennett isn't good. Rather Kylington and/or Dubè.

Not moving our 1st for either of those pieces unless Flames win the play in. Even then i would hesitate.

Change of scenery for Bennet is needed IMO. Flames aren't gonna get that value back for him right now.

I can GUARANTEE you that Trouba will not be bought out. Yes he had a disappointing season last year compared to what was expected but 1. I think he was hurt 2. Lindy Ruff SUCKS so he's the bigger problem 3. Even if you don't want him on the team, you're better off trading him this offseason before his No Trade Clause kicks in, even if you have to eat money you're at least getting something in return.

I can see them buying out Smith as opposed to Staal but think the team will value Smith's ability (albeit limited) to play both forward and D. Someone gets hurt, you don't have to call someone up, you always have an extra F/D who has experience in the NHL.

I pray they don't buyout Hank. Let him ride out the last year of his deal, split the starts in net and have him mentor Shesty. It'd be a slap in the face of one of their most iconic players. Georgiev gets traded because Shesty is the future and there are other options in the pipeline but also serviceable backups that can be signed cheap as a UFA. Georgie has trade value

Completely agree regarding change of scenery for Bennett. I like him because a move like this reminds me of when the Rangers acquired Brassard. Former high draft pick who hadn't fully lived up to expectations but is still a decent player. Put Bennett on the 3rd line with two former 1st round picks, Gauthier (big body, fast, great hands...I think he can develop into Kreider if not better since Gauthier has better hands) and Kravtsov (so much skill, just needs to put it together over here), and I can already see the makings of a Zucc-Brass-Pouliot 2.0 type line.

I dub him as almost like a grinder. A true competitor who will simply be tough to play against, kind of like Lemieux but with a different skill set. Worst case scenario he's your 4th line center between Lemieux and Fast to form one of the best two-way 4th lines in hockey.
