Depends if you think Montreal can be a playoff team next year. Both Danault and Petry can re-sign after 20-21 season. Then you have Kerfoot, meh, Liljegren, a 1st, 2 2nd s and Petry and Danault for the 21-22 season...

It’s tough, 2 rentals for a beast and a first next year and 2 seconds(one this year) I doubt we get the same value by separate trades

And depending on the deals could be awesome. If not build your rhd around Timothy and get some solid prospects from the picks

I guess that depends if you see this team contending in 2 years. If not, you pursue the deal. If it can.... well..... I say it's a bad idea. Petry is aging well, and so long as the contract demand is reasonable, then you do that in a heart beat. Danault still has a solid 6 years left, so even a longer term retool he can be a core player.

I don’t consider either a core piece. And the team might contend in two if we open up space for kids to play

Well then......

I think you do much better in sepearte deals honestly. Danault is wildly underrated, and ina sign and trade kind of trade, the Jets would have to be interested. Something about needing a second line centre. Same can be said for Buffalo (a better fit imo).... I am sure Montour could be had.

Petry would be super easy to move to a contender, and the Habs have the ability to retain 50% of the cap. A $2.75 million Petry? Could move that to Tampa for Cernak and likely save the Bolts a few bucks. Toronto? That starts with Kapanen. I would even suggest Philly would be in on that......

Habs are in a spot where I don't think they need picks as much as young NHL ready or playing players that will grow with what is the furtue core of the team. They have enough picks over the next two drafts that so long as the scouting is good, the pipeline should be there. And kids a coming on top of that..... Caulfield, Brook, Juulsen (lesser extent), Romanov, Peohling that add to the Suzuki, Drouin, Kotkaniemi, Lehkonen group.

Further, if you are intent on moving Petry and Danault,; Tatar will get you a small ransom. Jim Nill I am sure would love to do business for Jason Robertson.

I mean if you are mental.... go for broke!!

I’d rather Timothy than Kapanen. And rentals at the deadline probably wouldn’t get u a stud. Now yes maybe a sign and trade but can u think of a young rhd prospect better than this one? The more picks the better. We’ll have four 2 meaning we can maybe trade to the end of the first.

I think it's fair, it's a lot for TOR to give up, but MTL wouldn't have it any other way.

TOR gets two quality players. Danault and Petry are really underrated league wide IMO

Yes, but one or both could resign. Plus imagine that team.

I have, it's not really worth it considering the AAV both players will get, Kerfoot is locked for 3 , Liljegren at the high end if he pans out gets Petrys current contract but Petry will cost more. Also the 1st is an ELC so........ honestly this is pretty bad for the leafs

Leafs wouldn't have cap space to re-sign. It'd obviously be a nasty team but the Leafs window for contention is just starting to open so it'd be stupid to mortgage our future for 1 year

Wouldn't say that when we have our 4 best forwards locked up for 4 more years at least, a nasty winger ready to break into the league and two young dmen that will be top 4 guys soon

Nothing about this trade give the Leafs "the best shot they've ever had" that's an absolutely ridiculous statement

U could easily find the room for one if not both. It’s a risk but (I know I’m a Habs fan and blah blah blah) but the leafs are still a ways away from the cup

Petry can hit, but, Manson, Savard, DeMelo and other defensive defensemen are aggressive as well. On the Leafs side, we are overpaying with future assets (SDA) for a rental defensemen who can go back to the Canadiens after his contract is done.

The difference between Danault and Kerfoot really isn't all that much, again Danault is a UFA in 1 year and if he's as good as your claiming he's getting 5/6 million on his next contract, this trade is straight bad for the Leafs long term. Petry is a 2nd pair guy not a top pair guy been over this time and time again. I'll take my chances and keep Kerfoot, Liljegren the 1st and 2-2nds over a single year of both those players , still make the playoffs while Habs dont

Petry is a number one rhd. Those aren’t cheap. Danault is a 1c or elite 2C, those aren’t cheap. So yes u give up some young kids, but u become instant cup favourites and keep ur two best prospects
