Minny needs centers, sure, but they also need stars. Eriksson Ek isn't more than a good 3C or a bad 2C at best; is he really THE guy for the Wild going forward? Especially when they can draft a Lundell or Zary in this draft. Staal, Kunin, Donato, Rask, Galch, Koivu (?) can all play center if some of them have to slide over

The only scenario I could see considered would be something like this as the BASE.

No, he's not the guy (as in our 1C we've needed for 20 years since inception), but we need a defensively responsible 2C and that's what Ek is and will be for us to play behind our eventual 1C.

Staal has a year left and I'm not sure he can play in the top 6 much longer. Koivu will retire this offseason. Kunin and Donato are wingers, Galch may not re-sign with us, and Rask belongs in Europe. We can't afford to trade Ek.

Points are great but the Leafs need more defensive minded dman instead. Barrie wants to get paid as well so it would be better if the Leafs went and signed somebody else.

which is the point, Dumba isnt good defensively either, and at least Barrie puts up a ton of points vs a decent amount. Matt Dumba is basically Tyson Barrie who doesnt score as much and hits once ever 3 or 4 shifts.

Dumba just had a off year, he is still very young and holds a lot of value around the league. Bill Guerin is not just going to move Dumba for any trade package thrown at him. The Wild want in return is a legit top 6 center for Dumba.
