Detoirt German Red Wings

Created by: HeinousFulcrum
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2020
Published: Jun. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A fun exercise in how Detroit could land all the premiere German talent.

Detroit drafts Tim Stutzle (3), John-Jason Peterka (32), and Lucas Reichel (51). I used the draft simulator: https://draftprospectshockey.com/draftsim/#/ and was able to do this.

Detroit trades for Leon Draistatl. Is Mantha, Veleno, Dekeyser enough to get the trade done? Am I low-balling. does it take more?

Center: This team is now elite up the middle for years to come with Larkin and Draistatl. Losing Veleno sucks, but the return is more than worth it, and Rasmussen can now slot in where he should as a 3rd line center.

Wing: Losing Mantha also sucks, but Detroit has dynamic wingers in Zadina and Stutzle. Reichel and Peterka can slot into the top 9, and hopefully, Berggren should be in the top 6 in a couple of years.

Defence: Without Dekeyser, the defence has a gaping hole. Carolina has a bunch of defence with Jake Bean ready to step into the lineup. I made a trade to acquire Hayden Fleury who can step into the top 4.

Goalie: Still an area of weakness, but is easier to fix through free agency and trading. I traded for Georgiev.

Draisaitl would require Larkin, I can't see EDM moving him

Drop the pick and Smith, and add a 4th to E Svech and you may have a deal

No thanks try more like Larkin++ for Leon Draisaitl. Doubt DDK would even waive for Edmonton Detroit kid and all. Not interested in dealing Mantha any time soon.

Why not trade E. Svechnikov for Bokk and get another German winger.

I see lots of replies saying it at least starts at Larkin. So I guess here would be my next proposal:

Larkin, Mantha, Dekeyser, 2020 2nd round pick (WSH).

There could be other assets from Detroit like more prospects or picks, but I think that would be the core of the trade. Edmonton is giving up a special player for 2 elite players, a top 4 shutdown defenceman and a 2nd round pick.
Detroit can move Stutzle to center.

If you didn’t include your first from this year, the conversation wouldn’t even get started.

Only way Draisaitl is coming to Detroit is as a free agent in a long time. There’s no realistic combination of assets that gets him to Detroit in the near future.
