I don't understand why Toffoli is such a huge priority. He's only played like 9 f***ing games with the Canucks and now we move Boeser to make room for him?

The deal isn’t as much about Toffoli specifically, it’s about asset management. One-for-one of course I’d rather keep Boeser, but if the cost to get rid of Eriksson by himself is a 1st rounder, then would you rather have;

Boeser
Or
Toffoli plus 2 1st round picks?

That's only true if you force yourself to trade Eriksson right now. I think we can wait one year and move him for cheaper the year after. Boeser > Toffoli by quite a wide margin.

The problem with that plan is that it leaves zero room to sign a competent top 4 Dman this year, basically ensuring that the already sub-par defence will be worse than last season. They have to find a way to improve their defensive game if they want a shot at the playoffs again in 2021.

The cap problems that people were talking about are beginning to show themselves. We'll see how the people who claimed we were in a great position cap wise spin this. I think Tanev might be willing to sign cheap but other than that, this is the result of cap mismanagement. No way these problems should arise while Pettersson and Hughes are on their ELCs.

I also would prefer to sign Pettersson and Hughes to long term deals too instead of bridge deals, which would likely come in at around 11M and 10M respectively. Bridge deals don't really make sense with franchise players.

realistically though wouldnt you rather keep boeser, and give up a 1st and not sign toffoli?? he's younger... arguably better and has a much bigger sample size with the team than toffoli
