I think you should stop with the Kubalik trades. Both your proposals have been rather poor.

Why are you signing a bunch of crap LHD to 1 year deals? Why all the stop-gap contracts? This team should be moving forward, not built like Ottawa's team last season.

What if it were Lias and the CAR 1st?

The obvious lack of depth, while being solid. The rest of the reserves aren't ready, our other RFAs and UFAs aren't worth resigning. Totally different scenarios this year with all leagues starting in the usual October while NHL will be in January! Letting kids simmer til later in season, instead of Banking on all Barron, Nils, KAM and Lauri to make it. Solid stop gap depth Ds and and a few good stop gap gamble Fs as call up depth. Pretty sure the goal is to be good as of next year.

My next proposal would probably be something like this. I figured the cap tight Hawks would like some cheaper forward help instead of a high pick. Buch's value is almost on par with Kubalik, although I must say, he looked big, aggressive, skilled and very impressive the few games I've seen him play!

They have a ton of prospects, and a bunch that should be ready to get their feet wet in the NHL next season, at some point. You see how the season goes, giving guys like Hajak and Rykov a look, later in the season Lundkvist and Miller. If the team is great, and needs those spots filled, you trade for them at the deadline for better pieces. All these stop gaps due is prevent kids from getting NHL icetime and adds another player the team has to move at the deadline when they acquire playoff rentals.
