I don't think the Canes take that. I think any team that wants Pesce is going to overpay and for the Leafs that probably means the ask is Nylander. Like I said, I wouldn't make that trade if I'm Dubas.

Agreed, just plain value-wise though I think the trade I said would be fair. Not a whole lot of competent RD in the league so their trade value is obviously a bit higher. Wonder what it would take to get a guy like Carlo off the Bruins or if Brodin shot right

They'd take more than the pieces the Leafs have to offer (your Kapanens, Johnssons, Kerfoots, etc of the world)

I feel some combination of Liljegren, Dermott, and Kapanen can get it done.

Kapanen is crazy skilled and has an easy spot on the 2nd line, where I can see him getting 50pts 20g

Dermott is a good bottom-4 DMan. He doesn't fill the whole left by Pesce but he's solid.

Liljegren has a ton of potential. It's not everyday you see a 21 yr old 2-way defensemen score 30 pts in 40gp.

They'd be fools not to take it.

I wouldn't give Liljegren in a Pesce trade, Lily has potential to be as impactful and he'd be cheaper for awhile

Fair enough. It's disgusting how undervalued he is on this site.

Hes going to be an absolute force on thr Leafs blueline for years to come. Hes had some unfortunate circumstances that have slowed his development but this kid was gonna be a top 5 pick, no reason he can't be a top pair dman in a few years

Not a Canes fan, Pesce is really, really good.

Pesce is overrated, he was really bad defensively this year

Sorry but as an outsider with no association with the Canes nor the Leafs I just don't think the Canes take a package like this for Pesce. You can think he's overrated and that's fine but I just don't see him being traded for the pieces the Leafs would be willing to part with.

I'm very aware of Kapanen and Liljegren. I watch about 20 or so Leafs games per year and I like Kapanen a lot. Great goal scorer, fantastic speed and he's surprisingly very good in both ends of the ice. Liljegren has solid potential. I'm not convinced he's a top pairing guy but I see a 2nd pairing player in him.

Well I want to believe it but his advanced stats are... lacking and he doesn't really look exceptional on the ice. Not to be rude but can I have a source on why everyone thinks he's so good, I genuinely want to know why.

You're looking at his percentiles from this year? Look at last year, and you'll see why he's valued so highly. He was mainly stapled to Joel Edmundon who has an analytical "black hole" affect in that he makes everything around him worse, as @STLBlues17 will tell you. It's fair to say Pesce didn't have a great year, but he was still elite when you then take away Edmundson from his stats. Just looking at his xGA, it goes from +1.53 with Edmundson to a -2.56 without him. Pesce is VERY VERY good.

Next time the Hurricanes play watch Pesce. He’s not flashy and doesn’t grab your eye but damn is he efficient and that contract is fantastic. The proposed offer isn’t gonna cut it.

How can you be worth Nylander apparently when you have the advanced stats of Cody Ceci? Nylander IS flashy, he makes the good plays, he was on track for 40 goals this year and seemed to dominate play while Pesce was... meh. He had decent positioning but clearly not that good when you look at his shot suppresion and QoC/QoT. Call me a skeptic but I don't buy it.

Because hockey is played on ice, not on a spread sheet. There is no stat that tells you ANYTHING about how a defensemen plays hockey. Carry on, you’re missing an awesome game.

For what? A depth player and an okay prospect? Sure. For any of the d men talked about here you get laughed at.

You mean a middle six forward, a young 2nd pairing defenseman and a 2nd round pick is worth a depth player and an okay prospect? I'm the one laughing at you

Before 19-20. This year his xGa and shot suppression were both ass.

Ah yes. I’ll give you that. Horrid xGA. He was really good at playing hockey though.

That is one of the dumbest things that has ever appeared on the internet.

If Liljigren gets to the point where he’s half as good as Pesce, he’ll cost more.
