I hate this for Wild.
Stay away for McD imo.

On separate note, can I ask your thoughts on Middlestat???

Gonna be tough when we need to pay Fiala, Kaprizov, JEE, Brodin and a goalie at the end of the season... I take it you expect Brodin to be gone in this scenario?

Yeah it would be really tough. He'd probably have to walk or we move him at the deadline

I wouldn't consider him the solution to our problem, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying low on Mittelstadt as long as they're not asking for someone like JEE back.

I like his skill but worry Buffalo ruined him when they rushed him to the NHL. Who knows though maybe he turns into another Nino.

I'd be fine with him as a buy-low option and hope he pans out with some time in the AHL

What about something along the lines of Brodin with extension and, Greenway for Middlestat, Johnsson (Leafs), and pick.

Yes it's a 3 way.

Not sure if you consider that buying low or not.

I don't like the idea of using Brodin to get Mitts. If it's Greenway or Donato and maybe a pick then sure, but not Brodin.

We have too many left shot wings as is so also no need for Johnsson

Here is the full trade I am thinking and would really love your input and anyone else's

To Wild :
Middlestat (signs 1 year 925K)
Johnsson (from Leafs)
2nd rounder from Sabres
3rd rounder from Leafs

To Sabres :
Brodin
Kerfoot
Bracco
Rasanen

To Leafs :
Brodin (1.85 million retained by Sabres) (extension signed with Leafs 4 million AAV for 5 years)
Donato

I understand what your saying regarding LW but if one of JEE or Middlestat workout as 2 C... I think this is worth it.

There have been a couple Brodin for Mitts base deals floating around on here that I like. I don't think BUF ruined him, they just wasted his rookie season in a NHL role instead of an AHL/injury callup role.

Brodin is a full season rental for whoever trades for him. The extension is something his new team will have to work out, so figure a conditional picks worked into the deal. This isn't the NBA where sign and trades are a common thing.

Mitts is a boom or bust trade candidate. Buy low on him and hope he turns out. I think he'd be better off in MN than he is in Buffalo. The Wild have the d-corps and wings that can cover for his mistakes while he learns.

If MN got Mitts somehow, first thing I'd do is attach Foligno to his hip on-ice.

With an extension I don't like it. Also confused if it's the Leafs or Sabres who get Brodin?

Leafs, Sabres retain on Brodin as a part of the 3 way.
What would need to be added or changed to bring you on board?

I don't know if either team has something that would intrigue me that they'd be willing to give up. I like Mitts but as I said I'm just not sure I'd be willing to trade an extended Brodin for him

I don't see why either MN or BUF would make the deal.

MN: Brodin+Donato for 2nd, 3rd Mitts, and a $3.4m LW don't need at all in Johnson. Keep Donato (he's $1.5m cheaper) over Johnsson
BUF: gets completely hosed in the deal. Kerfoot (worth a 2nd) is the only thing of value they are getting yet they are retaining $1.8m x 4 (on Brodin) and giving up Mitts. Bracco is worth a 4th (at most). Rasanen hasn't done anything to be worth anything in trade.

The Tor part of the 3-way just bogs it down. They aren't giving up anything and still getting the best player in the deal signed to a sweet contract at that.

Without an extension it's still not fair to Buffalo. Something around Mitts and Kapanen intrigues me from the Wild's perspective with another add like a pick. Still not sure if I'd do it, we could get a haul for Brodin at the deadline if we chose to move him as a rental.

Going to Buf a lot. Bracco and Rasanen aren't worth anything other than a sweetener in trades. The only thing they are getting is a 3C. and giving up Mitts and a 2nd to do it.

If BUF called and said TOR and said I'll give you our 2nd for Kerfoot+Bracco+Rasanen, Tor would at least think about it (putting the same division aside). I mean $3.5m in cap space + a guy that'll be waiver fodder when the season starts + a (longshot) prospect who's playing in Russia for at least the next 2 seasons. It's just a Kerfoot+ stuff for a 2nd trade.

If Buf could get Brodin why wouldn't they keep him? He'd do a lot to stabilize their d-corps. A (order the pairings however) Brodin/Risto, Dahlin/Montour, McCabe (or whoever)/Miller is a solid but not great d-corps.

Buffalo does not have any need for a roster D man.
Beyond the guys you mentioned they also have Jokiharju.

That's why Brodin makes no sense for them, in fact they are trying to move a D man.

I get what your saying about they need more coming back though.

Okay revised now a 4 way

To Sharks =
Johnsson

To Sabres =
Kerfoot
Bracco
Rasanen
3rd rounder from Sharks

To Wild =
Mittelstadt
Sorensen
1st rounder from Leafs
2nd rounder from Sabres

To Leafs =
Brodin (1.95 million retained by Sabres)
Donato

Is this enough?
