Pilut = fifth-round pick

Montour = Bennett plus one second-round pick

Ristolainen plus 2020 second = Henrique plus 2020 fifth

Colorado says yes.

Samuelsson + 3rd would probably be enough though.

Alternatively you could simply change the 2nd to a 2021 pick, or make it Samuelsson + 2nd for Avs 4th.

We would probably do Montour for Bennet and a 2nd, definetly not 2 2nds.

I used that value effectively with my updated trade. Just instead of a 2020 4th I opted for a 2021 3rd which would have similar value.

Alright, that's fair; someone else had made a Risto trade with Poolman, Bennett and 2 2nds and I thought that seemed rather absurd so I had dropped the extra prospect initially. Now I made it Bennett, 2020 2nd and a 2022 4th which is akin to a 6th in 2020. Granted the latter pick could be made conditional by some means.

Pilut's rights are at least worth a 4th, 3rds and 4th are the most typically dealt picks for RFA rights. Another idea would be to make it a 2021 4th that becomes a 2021 3rd if he signs in the NHL.

Risto's value should be higher than Henriques not vice-versa. Henrique is 30 and under contract for 4 more years at just shy of 6mil. While Henrique could potentially be well worth his contract the next 4 years he could also implode. The Sabres take the far larger risk hence my offer stands as he could easily turn into a cap dump within a year.

On board with the Risto and Montour deals. Should be trying like hell to convinve Pilut to come back with a guaranteed NHL spot now that Botterill's gone, not trading him for scraps. Don't really need Zadorov then which is more than I'd be willing to pay.

Whether or not RFA rights are commonly worth a third or fourth doesn't apply to guys who already have signed a contract in the KHL. And the idea that a fourth is a throw-away (as implied by the elevation to a third if it turns out to be worth anything) is just not rational.

You have Henrique as your #2 C. That's by definition worth more than Ristolainen, whatever the risk that he starts declining in 2, 3 or 4 years. If they were playing the same position, your argument would have merit. Because they're not, it doesn't.

That's a really bad Colorado trade. Samuelsson is already everything Zadorov is but better. He can actually skate unlike Z and he can get offense also unlike Z

I used that value effectively with my updated trade. Just instead of a 2020 4th I opted for a 2021 3rd which would have similar value.

So your updated trade is:

Zadorov + 2021 COL 3rd for Samuelsson + 2020 BUF 2nd.

I'd be inclined to agree to that.

If we say that Samuelsson is worth an early 2nd (his draft position), then the trade breaks down to these two parts:

- Zadorov for 2020 BUF 2nd

and

- 2021 COL 3rd upgraded to an early 2nd (i.e. Samuelsson).

Now, whilst I'd value Zadorov at a 2nd + 3rd, if the 2nd is high enough I'd be inclined to accept a 2nd + 4th. But in this case instead of a 4th we're getting an upgrade from a 3rd to a 2nd. An upgrade like that is probably worth about a 4th (i.e. it effectively makes the trade an early 2nd for 3rd + 4th), so the value seems fair.

Samuelsson is a 20 year old that has never played at a level above NCAA. Let's see him play a game against pro's before making ridiculous claims like that.

As for skating, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Zadorov's skating; in fact, it's actually one of his strong suits and is what allows him to be an effective defender in transition, as well as what allows him to be so dangerous at delivering big hits.

As for the offense, Zadorov is pretty limited offensively, but I think it's very premature to say that Samuelsson is better. He only has 2 goals in 30 games this season in the NCAA after all, and that's with PP time. I don't think he will be a Dman that can be counted on to put up points in the NHL.

A 2/3D RHD is certainly worth more than even a 2C near his “expiration” date. Just because I place him as my 2C doesn’t make his value higher than if another team wanted him as a 3C. He’s about a 45 point guy which makes him somewhere between a 2C and a 3C statistically. Risto actually averages just under Henrique in point production with about 38 to 40 points a year. Thing is we need a center and Anaheim wants a RHD thus we are just hashing out our opinion on value. If Henrique were 28 I’d wholeheartedly agree with your opinion but he’s going to be at the dreaded 30+ years old point for all his remaining years and it’s unlikely he’d be a 45pt guy at 34.

As for Pilut, he has an opt out for an NHL contract. For another team to acquire him it would require something of value to return to Buffalo and a 5th is effectively nothing. We’d be better off just holding his rights until 2022 when his KHL contract ends.
