God no, Strome isn’t someone I’d trade anything of value for. As someone who watches the Hawks when the Sabres aren’t playing; he is someone who is everything we don’t want. His skating is suspect, he has only produced when with Debrincat, and is at best Reinhart lite. He’s going to want too much money and in the end there is no way I’d trade our 1st plus for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>Tampa will decline. Buffalo is better off keeping the pick and developing the player for 2 years from now while hoping Mittelstadt can find his game after.some time in the AHL. Tampa doesn't need a player that won't help them for at least 2(probably 3) years and aren't that interested in Mittlestadt, a player they'd have to re-sign to a cap hit more than they want to pay to a bottom 6 F they already have plenty of. I don't see Tampa moving Cirelli, but if Buffalo wanted to make Brisebois listen, they'd need to start with either Cozens or Jokiharju. Tampa would want a player that could help them next year(in the case of Jokiharju, possibly with Cozens, or in the case of Cozens, at least provide a prospect with a chance of replacing Cirelli the year after). In either case, I doubt Tampa moves their rising 2C, but that would likely be the starting base for a trade with Buffalo.</div></div>
Unless the Sabres just offersheet him

Not really, I’ll take 3x6 and one player versus 2x4 2x9 and 2x6.8 with 3 separate players.

These are some seriously ugly trades for the Sabres. I say no to everyone of them then block numbers.
We’d have little to no space for Dahlin or Joker’s contracts and have a load of formerly good players eating our cap space.

I’d keep Mitts if those are my options; Andersson has never impressed me over the years and Puljujarvi just has to many question marks to be worth the risk. Plus a center prospect > winger prospect

Sabres ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Whether or not RFA rights are commonly worth a third or fourth doesn't apply to guys who already have signed a contract in the KHL. And the idea that a fourth is a throw-away (as implied by the elevation to a third if it turns out to be worth anything) is just not rational.
You have Henrique as your #2 C. That's by definition worth more than Ristolainen, whatever the risk that he starts declining in 2, 3 or 4 years. If they were playing the same position, your argument would have merit. Because they're not, it doesn't.</div></div>
A 2/3D RHD is certainly worth more than even a 2C near his “expiration” date. Just because I place him as my 2C doesn’t make his value higher than if another team wanted him as a 3C. He’s about a 45 point guy which makes him somewhere between a 2C and a 3C statistically. Risto actually averages just under Henrique in point production with about 38 to 40 points a year. Thing is we need a center and Anaheim wants a RHD thus we are just hashing out our opinion on value. If Henrique were 28 I’d wholeheartedly agree with your opinion but he’s going to be at the dreaded 30+ years old point for all his remaining years and it’s unlikely he’d be a 45pt guy at 34.
As for Pilut, he has an opt out for an NHL contract. For another team to acquire him it would require something of value to return to Buffalo and a 5th is effectively nothing. We’d be better off just holding his rights until 2022 when his KHL contract ends.

Sabres ideas
Made some changes based on some feedback.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>
Alternatively you could simply change the 2nd to a 2021 pick, or make it Samuelsson + 2nd for Avs 4th.</div></div>
I used that value effectively with my updated trade. Just instead of a 2020 4th I opted for a 2021 3rd which would have similar value.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CrazyFlamesFan</b></div><div>We would probably do Montour for Bennet and a 2nd, definetly not 2 2nds.</div></div>
Alright, that's fair; someone else had made a Risto trade with Poolman, Bennett and 2 2nds and I thought that seemed rather absurd so I had dropped the extra prospect initially. Now I made it Bennett, 2020 2nd and a 2022 4th which is akin to a 6th in 2020. Granted the latter pick could be made conditional by some means.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>
Pilut = fifth-round pick
Ristolainen plus 2020 second = Henrique plus 2020 fifth</div></div>
Pilut's rights are at least worth a 4th, 3rds and 4th are the most typically dealt picks for RFA rights. Another idea would be to make it a 2021 4th that becomes a 2021 3rd if he signs in the NHL.
Risto's value should be higher than Henriques not vice-versa. Henrique is 30 and under contract for 4 more years at just shy of 6mil. While Henrique could potentially be well worth his contract the next 4 years he could also implode. The Sabres take the far larger risk hence my offer stands as he could easily turn into a cap dump within a year.

I’d switch the 2nd and 4th between Buffalo and Anaheim. Risto is both far younger and cheaper so it should lean in Buffalo’s favor.
I wouldn’t make the Dallas trade though as if we trade Risto we need another more experienced RHD. Not a great idea to go with Miller, Joki, and a rookie in Borgen.

Possibly but it’s like apples to oranges with their respective situations at that age. Eichel is quite literally trying to will a team to relevance where as Malkin was stuck behind Crosby until Crosby’s concussion problem arose for awhile.

I’m not exactly sure why Montour keeps appearing but I frankly think Strome is way overrated for a guy who was garbage in Arizona and only was very good when reunited with Debrincat last year. I watch enough Blackhawks games to see he’s nothing more than Sam Reinhart lite who plays center.

His numbers are pretty good considering he is 21 and played on a really terrible team. He is on the 2nd PP and PK unit, seemed like Kruger gave him more sheltered minutes which was good. He makes extremely smart decisions with and without the puck. TBH I don't know if I ever saw him make a mistake that led to a goal against us which is a first for Sabres D.</div></div>
He did but not many. He had a few real doozies but was by far our most consistent dman in our end.

Obviously Buffalo wants to give away Skinner with retention and our 1st for the honor to overpay Strome with whatever money we “saved”, a potentially ok goalie, a prospect that makes Mitts look like Kucherov and a cap dump. *click*

patching holes
It’s quite sad how much of a circlejerk surrounds Risto’s talent. Is he great defensively, no but his offense is solid and if you actually watched a Sabres game you’d actually see that. He can eat minutes and he’s almost impossible to knock down. Is he the greatest dman to ever live, no, but he’s certainly an offensive threat and an RHD making him have value greater than random prospects and distant picks.
How about you just give us Neil Poink for a couple futures. He’s had a singular great year and that is all. I tire of Risto offers that equate him to an AHL tweener that has magically maintained himself in the league.

Cirelli and Strome
Cirelli trade is a tad overkill, 7th Overall and either Tage or the 2nd should work.
The Strome trade is a waste of assets and cap space. The guy has Leino written all over him; he’s been a winger for most his career and has had one good season when paired with a top end winger in Panarin.
The two cap dump trades are very unlikely to work.
Tuch for Montour I could be good with.
