Best scenario for next season

Created by: aadoyle
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2020
Published: Jul. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These trades help the future as Leafs will have cap space to extend (Freddie, Hyman, Roy, Lizotte, and potentially Barbanov). And have good depth for the future.

For picks here is who I think we should draft
Round 2: Luke Tuch
Round 4: Owen Pederson + Stephen Halliday
Round 5: Dylan Garand
Round 6: Ian Moore + Riely Grant + Ethan Cardwell
Round 7: Josh Williams + Alex Laferriere + Charlie Desroches

u can make your own list and let me know why you think we should draft this person.

As for Seattle the plan is to protect
(Hyman and Freddie will be extended afterwards so no need to protect them)

Matthews
Tavares
Marner
Nylander
Mikheyev
Lizotte
Kerfoot

Rielly
Muzzin
Roy

Campbell

As for who they take, Engval is chosen as Dubas makes a deal for them to take him in exchange for the addition of the signing rights to Mikko Lehtonen and a 2022 5th round pick.

with the rumored salary cap over the next 3 years only raising 1 million total, do you think you can sign rielly, andersen, hyman without moving one of the big 4?

I am not advocating for trading any of them, just not sure how you can resign any of those 3.

no way. Hyman is asking for 5 mil, Andersen for 6.5 and Rielly for 8.5 at least. Dont forget Sandin and Liljgren soon too

I see freddie going. Will be 33 and unless he signs a 3 year deal for 5.5-6mill cant keep him

Hyman takes a tanev deal 3.5 for 5-6 years

As for Rielly, he knows the cap situation of the league and with it not going up by much he may be more willing to take a team friendly deal with signing bonuses upfront. That way his cap hit is low and he still makes a tonne of money.

Overall if Freddie goes and the leafs bring someone in and do a 1a/1b system they will be fine.

No, and I don't think they intend to.

Hyman said in many interviews he isnt interested in the money and wants to play hockey with the leafs for a long time. I see him taking a Tanev deal.

was looking for a more aggressive LW as the leafs need those kinds of players and Tuch fits that well. He is big, strong, can score, and can play a good 2-way game. In general Dubas will be drafting projects as our lines are pretty much in place for years to come so we dont necessarily want ready now wings. For those Dubas will be going after RHD who dont need much seasoning to become NHL ready.

They aren't signing Andersen. Sandin won't get much if he doesn't put up points. Liljegren is getting a bridge.

Someone outside the org. Maybe Jake Allen? The only decision is whether you trade Marner to fit in Rielly long term.

I dont see Sandin in general being a money hungry guy, he just wants to play. He didnt take a signing bonus for that very reason. As for Liligren, I think Dubas gives him one more year to show what he can do, if no significant improvements occur I see him going in a package for picks or a veteran RHD.

I don't think Dubas is the type to reach that much for team needs, nor is he really a physicality type of guy, especially not Luke Tuch tho, if you want a bigger guy, he'd probably much rather go with a more skilled guy like Coe, or Cuylle, not as good as Coe, but better than Tuch, Bantle is another guy I'd much rather have than Tuch that fills that bigger stronger role, ik Greig is another energy guy that's def better than Tuch, but even then, I doubt Dubas takes one of those guys, he'll probably take a guy that's falling like maybe a Heineman or Tullio etc (or MARAT... imagine TOR with MARAT... holy sh*t that's terrifying)

It's not even that for Sandin, let's say he puts up ~20 points for the next 2 years. Comparables will help the Leafs.

Leafs can bring someone over from Russia, or go after one of the many good free agent goalies that will be available

I see (Allen or Raanta) being chosen on short term deals and Keefe implements a 1a/1b system

I agree Tuch is still though probs in his options list, but lets be real Dubas will draft a small, skilled player.

The likeliest option for the Leafs to do is either A) sign a goalie after the expansion draft is over, 2021 UFA market has some decent tandem guys. or B) go on the market and spend some capital on a younger goalie

I see Allen being a viable 1b option along with Raanta. Each goalie (Campbell/A or R) can play 41 games. The backup option trade for someone like Jarry or Murray.

Kings aren't trading Lizotte and Roy. Have you watched Lizotte before? He makes scouts cream their pants.

Lizotte will be gone to Seattle if u dont move him this year. In general he is expendable as the kings have younger better prospects who can come up and take his place. In general been told by other kings fans this is acceptable. one even gave me a list of who they could protect should this happen and the fact it does more good for them

Here's what the protection list looks like after this trade:

Forwards: Kopitar, Kempe, Iafallo, Kapanen, Grundstrom, Wagner, Frk

Defense: Doughty, Walker, Clague
