Regardless of who says no here... I don't actually think that this makes the Leafs a better team moving forward.

i like the idea of getting a cheaper defensive 3C like zacha on retention and moving kerfy, but swapping firsts doesnt make much sense there. if kapanen dermott and a first are involved in that deal, id suspect severson would be a part as well. as for the caps, we already have Holl whos been great with muzzin as well as liljegren almost ready, we really dont need a 2/3 pair RHD. I can see johnsson going out west to an up and coming team with future cap space like ducks but i dont see the caps taking on 3 mill for a middle/top 6/ complement winger

I'm anticipating that Washingtons 1st is between 27 - 31 and Vans is between 15 - 20 thats the reason for the pick swap it's a move up in the draft move, as for the Washington trade all together it's a cap move by either team , the 1st is for Mikheyev (been speculated teams have offered a 1st) and the Leafs get a serviceable RHD (agreed not a top 4) and a more favorable bottom 9 cap hit in Panik

Panik, Jensen, 1st for Johnsson, Mikheyev.

Capitals pass. Drop the 1st and the Capitals probably still pass. Jonsson at $3.4M and Mikheyev unsigned is simply not that appealing to the Capitals bottom line. They need a solid 3/4 D, they dont need to move their 1st for an overpriced 3rd liner.

The Leafs trade Kapanen, Johnsson, Mikheyev and Dermott and don't manage to obtain a top-4 RHD? Why?
