I appreciate the creativity. I don't think the values are too far off. NYI and PHI are fine, BUF isn't fair for BUF but they are desperate for a 2C so I could see it. The main problem is TBL, they aren't rebuilding so they won't do that. But again, good creativity.

The Sabres aren’t giving their future 2C for Monahan. I think they’re more likely to look for a stop gap until he’s ready.

Yeah the only reason I could see TB trading Point is because of their cap issues. I mean, even if they find some other way to fix it this season, he is an RFA again in two seasons so they will be in a big crunch yet again,

They'd be trading their future 2C to get a current 2C that is actually a 1C so that their current 1C doesn't tell them to trade him because he's tired of waiting for all the top 10 picks to make the team around him good. smile

They need need to trade Cozens to get a 2C. You can, but you don’t have to

Sabres fan here
Seems to me like we are overpaying

I’ve seen CGY fans doing Hanifin for Montour straight up,
but let’s just call it Montour + Thompson since Hanifin probably has more perceived trade value bc he was such a high pick

That means we give up Cozens & a 1st for Monahan
I suppose it’s not out of the question...
but i personally don’t like that deal
I think Cozens is gonna be good right away
Not as good as Monahan is now, but good enough that he helps our depth scoring enough to get us into the playoffs
And he should develop into as good of a player as Monahan,
maybe better

We’ve got a new GM with zero experience...
so who knows?

I’d pass on it though. I really like Cozens.

Well, then I would probably just trade Cozens+ for Point than for Monahan.

I’m sorry, I can’t let this go. Monahan is NOT a 1C. I can’t stress that enough.

Yeah I thought of that but if Tampa traded Point it wouldn't be in their own division to a team that already has Eichel.

You can stress it all you want, he's still a 1C.

Yep, he's our 1C when the Flames finished 1st in the west last year. He's no elite 1C but he's pretty good. 8th most goals scored out of all Cs since he entered the league. Career production similar to Duchene, Johansen, Couture, etc....he's bottom end 1C and at worst high end 2C and a very good player. We all saw the returns guys like Duchene and Johansen got.

I agree for sure that he’s a high end 2C.

In this hypothetical world - flames add more to get Barzal. C > W.

Also, if Barzal would sign for 8x8 we would have got this done a long time ago.

Yeah I agree C>W, Flames wouldn't be adding much though, and the whole premise of why this was done is in the description, it's because Barzal was being difficult to sign, not because of money but because he doesn't want to sign long term in NYI. A hypothetical situation similar to when Boston traded Hamilton to Calgary and then Hamilton signed for pretty much the same contract Boston was rumored to be offering.

I understand your premise, but again, 8x8 is a nobrainer (I also don't think Barzal would sign for this either). But why are the Islanders worried about a big OS and then it doesn't come for CGY?

Edit: Tkachuk also only has 2 years on his RFA. So Isles are just kicking can down the road and not accomplishing much. We could get Barzal $7M on a 2 or 3 year bridge too. So might as well just keep him

Because they sign him right away.

He's being difficult to sign for the Isles (maybe he doesn't like the coach, maybe he doesn't want to be on Long Island for the next 8 years (some people don't like big bustling cities))
He's not difficult for Calgary to sign.

Again, all hypothetical but plausible. Why was Hamilton difficult for the Bruins to sign but then immediately signed with the Flames? These things can and do happen. IRL Barzal probably signs long term with the Isles though.

Without a scouting staff, I imagine his trades will look as bad as many of the trades we see on this site.
If Kim is pulling the strings not as good what we see here.
We are in for some really hard times.
If he is pressured to produce a winner, then we will see Tim Murray results.
If he is allowed to be patient and uses the draft, we may as well pull names out of a hat without scouts.
I have been very optimistic, but not any more.
The recent events revealed more about who was directing the action.
IMO Kevyn will be a sycophant jumping through whatever hoops Kim tells him to jump through.

That could be true
While i get it being hard to be optimistic right now,
there’s also no value in being pessimistic either
Let’s just see what happens
Hopefully we’ll all be pleasantly surprised
