Description
Let me preface by saying I absolutely love Noah Hanifin and want to see him a Flame for a very long time. I don't think I would part with Valimaki yet and Kylington is not enough.

DUCKS FANS: is there a way you could see a trade invloving Kylington and a first or second for Rakell?

Correct, my bad, I am completely backwards on that. Thanks!

The Flames need another C more-so than a RW. They need to have 3 functional lines, right now they only have 2

Flames D is looking a little thin after that trade, losing TJ and Hamonic to free agency. I read your explanation so I know what you are doing, but Hanifin should stay put. also, puck moving D like Gustafsson rarely sign cheap deals like that, even coming off a bad year.

I agree with that, always like Rakell could be a good fit but certainly not a priority. Who would be your top targets for a C this offseason?

I would try for Cirelli, D. Strome, Domi.

I'd play the new C with Tkachuk, then put Dube with Backlund

In my absolute perfect world the Flames D next year is:
Hanifin - Andersson
Giordano - Gustaffson
Valimaki - Hamonic

What I think we will realistically see is:
Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - Kylington

I think I may be a little low on Gus but I don't think it is too far off as he was moved for a third round pick at the deadline, I do agree with you that his position and style can demand a little more which I think I would be willing to give as opposed to overpaying an older Brodie who plays a similar style.

Love the Dube Backlund idea. Ideally you'd like to see Backlund as a 3C this year?

They do need a guy or two to come back as buffers to the young D that are coming up. I wonder what Brodie and Hamonic will fetch on the open market? I like them both, but they'll both be looking at their last "big" deals. I imagine Brodie's starts with a 5 and Hamonic around 4.5.

I think those numbers are definitely accurate and if I am looking at Brodie over 5 and Gustafsson under 4 I think I am going with the latter, would love to see Hamonic back in a third pairing role for 2-3 years.

How do you figure that??? Flames very openly were searching for a top 6 RW. At C we have Monahan lindholm (natural position) backlund Ryan jankowski Bennett. At RW we have Lindholm out of necessity and mangi who is actually a LW but once again playing RW out of necessity

Flames also almost landed Kadri, so there’s that.

Backlund is 31, a decline is coming sooner than you think. Who’s a top 6 C in the system? I don’t see one. Ryan has 1 year left at soon to be 34. Jankowksi will be gone and Bennett has proven he’s not an NHL C

They really need to play Dube as a C, he is smart enough, fast enough, and is responsible defensively.

They don't see him as C though. Burke has said before on sportsnet that when they drafted him it was with the belief he's an NHL LW. This is proven by Dube being exactly 0% in the faceoff circle this year

It was on the 960 morning show, probably around December. I know he only took 2 draws, but I think that further illustrates, they think of him as a LW/RW.

If they don't make a move to add a C via trade, I think they really need to consider drafting one in the 1st round this year.

I think Gawdin is an NHLer, but a Trevor Lewis/Derek Ryan type, bottom 6er. Ruzicka has gotten a lot of love the last few weeks, but I need to see a little more from him
