Calgary's pick is unprotected, Calgary has the rights to the higher of either the Devils 2021 3rd, or the Coyotes 2021 3rd. The 3rd round pick upgrades to a 2021 first if the Flames win the draft lottery. The third round pick downgrades to a sixth if the Flames win the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

None of those pieces are worth anything to CGY.

Personally, I figured McLeod could be playing in the NHL within the next two years and thought he would be a solid third-line wing off the bat for Calgary and Popugaev would be more of a long term project which I think is fair especially because the pick probably won't be higher than fifteen and if by some chance they win the lottery they get next years first, but I get what you are saying. Where would you value Calgary's pick, unprotected, right now in terms of a return?

IMO Calgary’s biggest problem is depth forwards, so maybe Kevin Rooney or Pavel Zacha plus a third or fourth round pick

Not worth a first. I don't think McLeoud is going to be as good as people once hoped

Flames don’t want any of those players they wouldn’t give a first in a stacked draft

My first thought when making this trade was Zacha, a third, and a low-end prospect but I figured this would be more valuable. According to the comments I guess not.

To be fair he is still really young and has only played about four games in the NHL. I think most NHL gms would still view him with top 6 potential.

Who would you want in return for the Flames unprotected first? Because IMO they should try and win now but their pick is likely to be in the early-mid 20s so idk how much value you can get for that in terms of a player with star potential.
