Created by: ItsBlowTime
Team: 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 18, 2020
Published: Jul. 18, 2020

Description
Cernak is an RFA and and Tampa has cap trouble. What would it take for Tampa to take the picks from an offer sheet instead of matching?

Cernak signing at 4yrs x 4.2mil would give them a 2nd rd pick

I believe they would have interest in an NHL ready or close to ready RHD on ELC - Liljegren for example out of TO as a 1 for 1 would most likely be a better return than a single 2nd or even a 2nd and 3rd

a close to NHL ready player like LIljegren. A guy who could be Cernak soon. At least a good future one

But i doubt they trade him for picks. If they do it would be a first

a 1st and a 3rd realistically (or the compensation to signing him 4.25m+)
He had a tough year but he's one of the better young physical dmen in the league.

I can see Washington making a play for him. They need a RD upgrade on Gudas.

If Cernak signs an offer sheet there would be only picks going back the other way, no prospects.

So you're saying TB would match a 4.2m offersheet?

He'll get more than one offer and sign the 4.2m+ one IMO.

Or TB would see the potential offers and trade him for as much as they can get before it gets to that.

Given the threat of an offersheet, if someone offers a 2nd+, they're probably taking it.

But Tampa will trade for LTIR contracts like Zetterberg & Hossa before it comes to that.

Call me insane but if I were GMJB I'd trade Serg before Cernak...

1-MS has way more value
2-their RD is already an issue, especially with both Shatty and Bogo leaving
3-Serg not resigning gives them more cap flexibility than Cernak not resigning

yea thats crazy.

1-Sergachev has more value for a reason
2. Sergachev could play on the right side.
only the third point is a good reason
