Huge no from Colorado. We already have a better 2C in Kadri, along with Newhook on the way. Not to mention that we don't want to get anywhere near that Turris contract which runs beyond 2023 when Mackinnon needs a raise. Johnson's contract is significantly better as it expires a year earlier which fits nicely with Mackinnon's raise. EJ is also a leader in the lockeroom so won't be moved.

if the contracts were the same it might not be a bad idea but the turris contract being longer kills it.

Never thought of COL as a destination for Turris before. It's an interesting idea - I like it for the Preds but like @Richard88 said above, I think the Avs are depending on EJ's contract expiring in time for MacKinnon's new deal.

If NSH can get any return for Santini, they probably take it. He just makes too much to be stuck in the minors. If another team has a roster spot for him, they can have him.

Preds don't touch that Leafs trade.

If Colorado finds a way to acquire a top 4 defenceman like Johnson, I think Fabbro for that price is perfect as you solidify the bottom pairing for years to come

I think you mean Nashville acquiring Johnson here, not Colorado. But the Preds having Johnson doesn't make Fabbro expendable, and that's just not a good return for him, from NSH's perspective. Fabbro has a much higher ceiling than either of the Leafs' players, and the NSH's prospect pool is thin - they need those draft picks more than they need Liljegren or Dermott. Solidifying the bottom pair for years to come isn't really an issue. Fabbro has hopefully bumped EJ down to the 3rd pair within a year, and they have Carrier, Tinordi, Davies, & Farrance all coming up to fight for that final spot too.

I would argue that liijgren and fabbro have very similar ceilings. Dermott is just the bonus to fill in any uncertainty

not sure about that. fabbro at 21 is already playing 19 minutes a night with ekholm. im not sure why the leafs didnt take an extended look at liljegren this year when the injury bug bit. im assuming its a money/toi thing where he wouldnt get the needed time to develop in the nhl. I dont think the trades THAT far off but on one hand you have what liljegren should be vs what fabbro is actually doing. the 2nd and 3rd are probably a little overkill going back. if i had my choice ide take fabbro the 2nd and the 3rd especially in a deep draft like this one.

I would do a Dermott for Fabbro + picks. But Fabbro did not do crazy things so far. Would rather keep Liljegren.

Personally I think Fabbro's is significantly higher, but we're all biased towards our own players of course. But even if you were to consider both players to be equal, a 2nd and a 3rd is a big overpayment for Dermott. Especially for a team like the Preds, who as I mentioned really need to restock their prospect pool.

Fabbro absolutely had some rookie moments, but overall looks to be on target to be a very good top four defenseman. NSH doesn't touch Fabbro for Dermott + picks.

Fabbro also has an entire year on Lijgren as well. I think Lijgren development in the AHL last season compared to Fabbro's NCAA year were comparable

I think fabbro has that extra year of proven development 17-18 and 18-19 at BU. and then didnt flop when given 19m in that 4th d spot. Where Liljegren kind of plateaued last year and had a better year this year for the marlies. I think the difference is liljegren is looked at more outside of toronto as an offensive dman, and fabbro is looked at more of a 2 way with a high upside offensive ability.

Hence Why i think Dermott being thrown in the Deal is perfect

But you're not "throwing him in". You've got two picks coming back from NSH that are worth more than Dermott.

but the 2 and the 3 are kind of overboard. as gmgb says above, nashville needs to restock that cupboard of prospects. liljegren and fabbro are not equal trade value wise right now. dermott might recoup some of that missing value but once you throw the picks in its still lopsided toward the leafs. No team ideally wants to play guys on their offhand d spot. just because dermott can doesnt mean nashville would want him to. which makes dermott a 3rd pairing dman. even if liljegren can slide into the 4 spot next to ekholm, you could acquire a similar left d to play 3rd line d for less than that package and still have a solid young 4th dman.

Anaheim paid a fourth for Nic Des Lauriers and got a fourth for Derek Grant -- both NHL players, even if fourth-liners. Santini is an AHL player. No team is going to give you more than a seventh for him.
