Don’t the Hawks basically need to dump Maattaa to get under the cap? I realize Johansson makes as much, but given he’s a rental he’d be easier to move in a trade. I’d assume they’d just flip him for a pick.

Agreed.
But he should get a 2nd a B prospect.
He’d instantly become your second best defenceman and he’s only 25.

Ottawa can only have so many prospects. Getting a player who can play in the top 4 and help chabot will benefit the team a lot more then late first who won’t play for 3 years.

Maatta is the odd man out, but there are some teams that would take him for a mid round pick. Hawks would just want a 3rd or 4th back.

He's not better than Chabot, Brannstrom or Wolanin. I don't think it's a great fit, because regardless of whether he's better than some of Ottawa's dmen, that in itself doesn't actually make him good. I think Ottawa could be gearing up to make big addition, but they need to add someone who is younger, but more importantly good. Also he's 26 not 25.

Yeah but they should be setting their sights higher. Montour plays in Ottawa's top 4, but not because he's good. It's because his competition is Nikita Zaitsev who is outright terrible, and Artyom Zub who literally has not played a single game in the NHL.

Sens should use their assets and make an addition for sure, but they need to target a player who is a top 4 player because he deserves to be a top 4 player, not just because he's less bad than other options available.

Montour is top four dman. Not sure wat game u watch. The problem is Sabre’s have 4 RHD. And all play the same style.

Sounds like you are saying the Sabres should keep him.

And why would Ottawa want Hutton???

OTT passes very easily.

Montour isnt worth a 1st.

2nd + 3rd maybe, but then you have to take into account what youre paying to get rid of Hutton.

I wouldnt even give close to that. Montour isnt the defenceman Ottawa needs unless you think Zaitsev is a good partner for Chabot.

Didnt say thats what I would give for him, just what his appr pick value is. He was traded for a first last year. Someone will pay that for him. He has inherent value as an NHL 26yo RFA RHD

No he doesn't that's laughable. He had a big drop off this season in points and he has never been good defensively.

He isn't even getting 20 minutes a night (average for 2nd pairing D).

He's like a signifucantly worse version of Tyson Barrie offensively and similar defensively. Plus he has a QO that is too high for what he brings a team.

He's worth a 2nd round pick. If they want to dump Hutton I'd give them a 3rd round pick instead.

Dude youre comparing Tyson Barrie and Brandon Montour, just stop.

He is worth a late 2nd and a 3rd, and exactly, if they want to drop Hutton, I would take them both for a 3rd.

See how that math works out?

What's wrong with comparing him to Tyson Barrie. Their defense is very similar.
