Description
The thing about the PIT 2020 1st round pick is that I'm not 100% sure they're going to want it back. SURE I 1,000% understand why if you only think about it for 5 seconds....even my brain would say...WTF why wouldn't they? They're clearly going to make the playoffs. So send the worse pick. I actually agree with that logic...BUT if I were a PIT fan that understands what the term "sunk cost" means....Things get hairy. IF PIT's window is TRULY closing...which it is. Let's not fool each other. They I'd probably want that 2021 1st so I can use it during the TDL next year. The Stanley Cup can't be half A$$ed. If I were Bowman I'd make this MIN trade and toss a few silver dollars PITs way to make sure they don't take the 2020 1st back.

  1. Greenway, Jordan [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
I saw this from a MIN fan. I actually like it too. Let's make it happen.
MIN
  1. Strome, Dylan [RFA Rights]
2.
CHI
  1. Misyul, Daniil [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (NYI)
NJD
  1. Caggiula, Drake [RFA Rights]
  2. De Haan, Calvin
Additional Details:
NJD...these are two NHL playoff caliber players. These guys are tough and will help your prospect develop.
3.
CHI
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
Additional Details:
Help JR realize that IF he takes back the 2020 pick....he's got nothing to trade @ the TDL next year. I know PIT didn't do well this year, but EVERY SINGLE YEAR multiple teams trade away their 1st to get better for the playoffs. PIT won't be able to address any deficiencies without their 1st next year.
PIT
  1. Krys, Chad
  2. Sikura, Dylan
  3. 2020 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Bjugstad's cap is the real benefit for PIT, but they can also help their depleted farm system too. The Hawks and flip him for something even less, but retain as well.

Well the lottery is monday.

Depending on how high pick it is they should roll with it.

2020 draft is projected as stronger though so I don't see the scenario where they're not retaining the pick happening.

OK...BUT what if they want to go for it next year? Take a minute to think about it. SIX different teams traded their 1st rounder last year. PIT won't be able to do that.

If they want to go for it they can trade the player that they took with their (probably) higher pick in a better draft.

That's not really a smart move. You're suggesting every team feels the same way about every prospect. They dont. Also...im not intending to be too literal, but the trade seller at the next TDL may have very different needs than whom ever PIT takes. The 1st would be worth more.

I'm not suggesting that at all. I'm saying that they aren't without a valuable trade chip if they choose to keep this years pick. The statement that the 1st would be worth more is quite absurd, though. It could be, but that is completely dependent on a number of things (i.e the D+1 performance of the 2020 selected player, how Pittsburgh finishes next season, strengths of the respective drafts which doesn't bode well for the idea of moving this years pick).

Sure, but so is the alternative along with pretty much every decision an organization makes that will affect their team

So...why not get assets from the Hawks to make that risk worth it??? A separate discussion can be had on if this is enough.

Is Jordan greenway actually mobile for a 6’6’ player? That’s my only concern.

If MIN trades PIT’s 1st rounder to CHI, then PIT wins the lottery & CHI wants PIT to take off the condition, then they better be ready to give up a lot of assets to make it possible. Like we’re talking Kurashev & Regula, possibly more. I’m not even sure if you’d be allowed to do that honestly. IMO PIT has a very strong top 6 Forward & top 4 D. They just need to get an upgrade on third pairing defence which will be EZ. Don’t see any reason for them to trade their 2021 1st even if they contend. So I’d much rather keep Lafreniere.

No, I'm suggesting PIT doesnt win the lottery. Then its pick ~15... CHI should still make the trade IMO so that its not the 2021 pick and PIT can then still use the 2021 pick at the TDL to try to win the cup next year.

From what I've seen he can move. He's no McDavid, but no one should expect it either.

I looked up some video, he’s definitely got a Ben eager vibe to him, only he can score and assist. If he really put on muscle, Jesus H, just imagine how much he’d be like byfuglien. If they keep growing everyone the right way and patiently, man this could really start to look like the 2010 team again. I’ll always say that 2010 was the best of the cap era, bar none, full stop, period.
