2020 Draft:
#1. (LW) Alexis Lafreniere (Rimouski, QMJHL)

#43 (via NAS). (LW) Ridly Greig (Brandon, WHL)

Nah Skinner's washed. Time to flip him for the next low elite enforcer at the 2022 draft

Definitely staying away from that hurricanes deal. Nuge is an oiler for life as he should be. Also stay away from the ducks deal because russell for all the flack he gets on this site is a hell of a defender I wouldn’t be looking to move. Move nurse instead russell can fill in that spot until one of broberg or jones is ready for the minutes.

If you want to keep RNH, there is no money for Hall and you're missing out on a great prospect winger and a franchise goaltender. Hockey is a business, keep your feelings out of it.

Russell is overpaid. This team cannot afford him, and Nurse is still a better defenceman than Kris Russell. Lunacy if you think Edmonton is competing for a Stanley Cup with Russell as a regular in their top-4.

Canes wanting RNH is 2 years too late. We'll be taking Askarov with the 14th pick.

He's a quality bottom-pairing defensive defenceman, but he's $2M-$2.5M overpaid. Nurse is by every metric a top-4 defenceman. To make that short-sighted of a decision regarding both Nurse and Russell would be utterly foolish.

Does it make sense for Carolina to take Askarov if Kotchetkov already exists in the system? The Hurricanes already have 3 other goaltenders (along with Pyotr) in their reserve list and another 3 goaltenders they have the rights to. The time for Carolina to draft a franchise goaltender was two years ago: they're much more apt to go after Gibson than wait the 3-ish years before Askarov is a legitimate #1.

Can't see the Hurricanes passing on Quinn if he's available and they aren't trading their pick.

I don’t see why not.... russell unlike nurse plays a very defensive game. Nurse likes to transport the puck which this team really doesn’t need. They make short passes to exit zone and allow the forwards to gain entry. When nurse plays physical he’s prone to bad penalties when he plays soft he’s turning pucks over. The structure of the team doesn’t match what he’s good at. I’m really not sure why everyone on this site focuses more on Russell’s contract and avoids watching the ways in which he contributes. I wouldn’t move nuge to sign hall nuge has looked great with Leon or mcdavid also provides C depth in the event mcdavid or Leon miss time. Hall didn’t mesh well with mcdavid before I don’t see a reason to make the gamble that suddenly they will click.

Carolina don't need RNH, don't have the cap space for RNH and aren't giving up Bokk and someone like Quinn to do it. Get lost.

Russell doesn't contribute though: the NHL as a whole is moving towards the kind of transition game that Nurse is better at. Putting yourself out of position to block a shot has value, but not so much that it makes Nurse expendable. If you want to get into the specifics, Nurse blocked just as many shots as Russell did against Chicago. He also played 1.5x the amount that Russell did - Kris can't log the kind of minutes that Nurse can. If you really, really want to get into it, I have a post on one of mine or @CD282's AGMs where I actually dove into Russell's advanced stats: offensively, he's quite literally the worst NHL-regular defenceman in terms of any positive offensive contribution, and barely makes it out as an average defender on the defensive side of things. I'll gladly dig that up for you.

Koch isnt a sure thing and they have Makienimi too. Booth and Helvig havent progressed since getting out of juniors. Ned is showing to be a product of the team in front of him not a nhl ready goalie. Unless he shows good improvement, I dont think the Canes look to keep him past next season. I would be shocked if Quinn made it to 13. If we get 13/14, We'll have to make a choice between Askarov, Mercer, Jarvis and Amirov. With teams like Edmonton and Chicago knowing we can easily take Askarov, I would be management uses that to get Edmonton or Chicago to pay to move up to take him (if we arent taking him).

No no I know russell offensively sucks but I do credit him and larsson as big contributing factors stabilizing the blueline and making it a place youth can actually succeed in. The blueline is still very young I see great risk removing a defensive presence.

Edmonton still has the choice to defer that pick, in which case the Flames' own pick would transfer.

That's a no from the Preds. The prospect tool is too thin to be giving up quality futures for depth guys.
