If Stutzle/Byfield become better than Laffy, this trade will be consider as bad as Lindros' in a few years.

Uhhh, what? This is ridiculous.

The #2 overall and Turcotte is already an overpayment. They're not going to throw in Kaliyev, another 1st round pick, and a 2nd round pick in addition to taking back a cap dump.

The best offer the Kings would make is the #2 and Akil Thomas or Rasmus Kupari. Otherwise they'll take Byfield and be happy about it.

Now that the rangers have #1, they will hold the pick hostage. A team desperate for Lafriene will do something drastic Like this to get him. If no one complies, they will draft Lafriene.

This is stupid. Lafreniere isn't a generational talent, his upside is only fractionally better than Stutzle and Byfield. LA laughs themselves sick at this request.

Meh. Rangers need centers. They either use the pick on Stutzle or Byfield, or they trade the pick for #2 or #3 at a small premium and pick Stutzle or Byfield.

Rangers top paid forwards:

LW Panarin: $11.5M for 6 more years
LW Kreider: $6.5M for 7 more years

Rangers need centers. Trade the pick to LA or OTT for #2 or #3, get the 1C you need and another piece.

If chiarelli was GM this would work.

The Rags should select Lafreniere, the Kings should take Byfield. If either isn't happy with their pick, they can trade after the draft.

You think so? I think they'll keep Kreider and parley the #1 pick to LA or Ottawa.

That'll never happen. Teams are generally very loyal to whomever they pick. Any trade will happen prior to the draft if it happens at all.

So, are you drafting Stutzle at #1, or Byfield?

That's pointless. They're set for top-6 LW for the next 6-7 years. They badly need a center.

That's why you trade Strome for a high 2nd and take Marat Khustnutdinov and Thomas Bordeleau. 2 Centers with decent upside. You don't pass on franchise talents for positional needs.

Lafreniere isn't a position of need though, I've pointed that out several times already. And Khusnutdinov / Bordeleau won't be in the NHL for 3-4 years minimum.

Your solution to NYR's lack of centers is to TRADE A CENTER FOR PICKS.

Smart.

I said you don't pass on franchise talents to fill holes. That makes the GM look weak. Take Lafreniere, find a C through FA or trade. Could draft with CAR pick too.

Ryan Strome is not the answer. Short term he could be used as a stop gap,

Byfield and Stutzle are pretty much equal talents to Lafreniere as their skating abilities mean they'll have an easier time of the transition. And Byfield is nearly a full year younger, his ceiling is likely HIGHER than Lafreniere's.
