TOR Cap 20 - Lets Get Crazy

Created by: Itchy22
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2020
Published: Aug. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Goaltender change - CLB is one of the only two-headed monsters that might have a goalie available with Elvis & Korpisalo; Elvis adjusted from feedback from ACGM. 1st & 2nd equivalent to deal for Freddie out of ANA. Dubinsky saves CLB $1.2m in hard cash (20% of contract not insured)
2) LA deal - retention on Carter might be tough, but value for LA should be there. SDA added from feedback from ACGM.
3) I've seen Jersey fans dealing Woods for picks, Johnsson value 3rd & a 4th (has good term)
4) SJ needs a goalie. Looking at similar Vegas deal for Lehner at deadline. Realize SJ would need to unload salary to make this happen. Original deal was Freddie to CHI for Murphy & Shaw (LTIR)..
5) Copp 1 year to RFA, WPG tight to the cap and has Harkins, Appleton others to fill role. Need Defense, so Dermott + 4th (round Copp was taken in).
6) Sandin & Lehtonen & Soucy can rotate based on opponent. Barbanov & Engvall the same.
7) Room to add at deadline.

The Jets won't trade Copp for a player they don't want or need.

Chicago passes rather quickly. Murphy is an important piece to the hawks D core.

Columbus isn’t trading either goalie right now and if we had to Merzlinkins would be the one traded. Those contracts were signed at during the freeze... if they were signed now the numbers would go the other way.

Why Elvis the one to move?

But CHI needs a goalie. What would CHI move for a goalie?

CHI could still end up re-signing Crawford, or making space to sign a UFA. If they need to, Georgiev or Murray would be trade targets, but that's most likely the last resort.

So WPG doesn;t need a player with more offensive upside with cost certainty? They are pretty tight to the cap themselves and having to sign Copp for more than $3.5m after next year when they need to ink Laine, Poolman & Pionk likely ends up with them moving Copp for less.

Would have to image that SDA will be on the table if it helps upgrade with inexpensive parts. Cheers!

He’s the bigger contract and Korpisalo has taken the net this year. Elvis had like 6 good weeks when Korpisalo was hurt. Korpisalo won Columbus first 19 games and has looked great in the playoffs. I also said I wouldn’t move either of them, but if one must be traded I think Elvis is the one traded.

Johnsson for Wood is a good trade for both teams

No, I'd much rather keep the better, cheaper player now and worry about his RFA contract next year rather than get stuck with a worse, more expensive player for 3 more years.

Would Dermott and a pick make that trade? Or Dermott and pick for Lowry?

Not really. We have plenty of bottom pair D and PoMo loves Lowry, so unless he prices himself out, he'll be staying. Maybe by next seasons TDL we'll know where he stands contract wise, but I don't see the Jets moving him until then at the earliest.

Anyone else get the feeling people make comments on this stuff without actually ever having seen the other player play more than once or twice against their team?
