They REALLY need to do something anything about the defense

Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2020
Published: Aug. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mo NEEDS a partner. They can't just put Lehtonen/Holl/Liljegren/Dermott/Barrie there and expect such a pairing to work well, because none of the above are legit top pairing d-man (Barrie could be, IF he had a shutdown d-man to play with). I'd try to sign TJ Brodie and also add a guy like Severson by trade. Now that would be a great top 4 (Mo-Brodie, Muzzin-Severson).

Cause adding a top pairing guy would trickle down to the rest of the lineup. It would put everyone else in a more comfortable chair.

I’m not sure we both saw the same Barrie. I saw average at best offensive skills (about the same as Dermott) and sub ahl defensive skills. Whoever signs Barrie will be adding a bad contract.

Zero reason for the Wild to give up any assets other than cap space for a goalie. There are plenty of options in free agency, some would be good targets on a 1 year deal.

Offensive potential:
1st line: Mikeyev scores 18, AM scores 50 and Hyman scores 20... 88 goals there
2nd line: Robertson scores 20, JT scores 35 and Willy scores 30... 85 goals there
3rd line: Watson scores 9, Kerfoot scores 15 and Grant scores 15... 39 goals there
4th line: Barabanov scores 8, Larsson scores 9 and Spezza scores 9... 26 goals there

The 12 starting forwards combine for 238 goals, that's 2,90 goals per game.

Mo scores 15, Severson scores 9, Muzzin scores 8, Brodie scores 6, Lehtonen scores 4 and Dermott scores 3... that's 45 goals there

238 + 45=283 goals= 3,45 goals per game

Considering the G and the D are way better and that the team would have more grit (Bortuzzo should see games here and there, Grant would look great and Watson also provides a lot of it). AKA, a better team overall

He's consistently been a number 2-3 d-man for quite some time now

Going to assume Colorado Barrie has a lot of PP points.

Well I mean it's kind of his job, he should play on both PP units

I live in Calgary and I cheer them on 80 games a season. Brodie is not the partner for Rielly. He. Far too many brain farts and poor defensive play. The second half of this season he has played very well. I don’t expect it to be the new normal.

What should TOR expect if Brodie was added?

He's a really good skater who moves the puck well, and he's under rated defensively although he will make the occasional gaffe here and there.

Ok, that's basically what I thought. Not the best at defense but very much competent at it.

Does he bring good physicality to a team?

Anyone whose only “job” is pp minutes doesn’t really have a job on defence.

He is sort of like gardiner but better on the right side. I will say that his defence has been much better this year. He is an offensive Dman. Would fit in Toronto about the same as Barrie.

Hamonic would be the better target but I think he is going home.

OFD is probably not the right term for him hes definitely more of a puck moving defenseman. Hes quite fast and has a great transition game.

Yup, I agree. That’s why dubas wanted him. I think his play this year has bumped up his contract value. But if he reverts back to the brain farts could be a poor contract.

i personally doubt he goes to Toronto. I think he either resigns or moves south.

I think it will depend on where the money is. I’m sure he would like to be on a competitive team but Toronto won’t be shelling out the contract he earned this season.
