Moving out cap improving D and an Andersen trade proposal

Description
I think Nylander for Pesce in terms of value is better for CAR here whereas I would take Fleury slightly over Dermott.

Andersen trade: similar contract to Merzlikins, gives CBJ a more proven option in their rotation and TOR gets a younger player and overall a good change of scenery for Freddy whose struggled to have post season success. Also think Kerfoot gives a tad more than Jenner offensively for CBJ and gives them some more speed and TOR gets more sandpaper with Jenner

Pretty sure Columbus is going to decline strictly based on the merit of term. Andersen is going to want a payday next summer, Elvis still has the extra year of $4M. Seems counterintuitive to trade goaltenders here when that money could be used elsewhere on the roster

Possibly but I think that goaltending dynamic is attractive for CBJ. Yes, Elvis has more term by only a year but I think he's locked in behind Korpisalo. Andersen can come in and not only supply a nice balance but will most likely become a starter for them over Korpisalo throughout the season next year. Also think he has to be realistic and he probably won't get offered anything over $6M

Yeah I can't see enough of a benefit for Columbus to do that.

They say Leaf fans overrate players and then you get comments like this.... CAR is LOADED on defence... a surplus actually. Adding Nylander to play along Aho, Teravainen, and Svechnikov gives them a massive boost up front... People on this site treat Pesce's value like he's Lidstrom. Nylander for him makes too much sense for both teams and what they need.

I get the argument but I personally think more has to be made of the fact TOR is indeed taking on more risk here. Merzilikins is technically a back up in CBJ and has under 40 games of NHL experience. Tor is banking on potential here and CBJ knows exactly what they're getting in Andersen

Just because we have an abundance of D doesn’t mean we make the deal. We don’t need Nylander like we need Pesce. On top of that, no team will trade 2 top 4 defenders in one deal for with an add on of Dermott. We don’t overvalue players, we know how to manage our assets and cap appropriately. Add on how burnt out we our with Car-Toronto trades after a week of saying it doesn’t work for us. Yet, he they still come in waves.

Not counting the right-handed Rickard Rakell, we have Dan Heinen, Sonny Milano, Max Jones and Maxime Comtois all competing for playing time at LW, so why would we want to spend our fourth-line LW plus a third-round draft pick to add to that logjam?

Dermott is on equal levels with Fleury despite your assertion he is a "top" defender...

Secondly, Canes have Hamilton, Slavin, Skjei, Gardiner, Vatanen, Edmundson, TVR, and Bean ready to step up. In no world do they need Pesce more than Nylander. Nylander adds a massive offensive element for the team and the argument that Nylander can't get you Pesce is ridiculous.

I dont think they really wanna move jenner. Hes alot of their heart and soul. I guess it depends what they really think of Elvis. If they think his upside beats Anderson they say no.

Dermott doesn’t equal Fleury. No one said Nylander isn’t worth it. We’re saying we wont do it because of cap. Reading is fundamental. Canes pass, moving on.

Pesce for Nylander is fair, but Fleury is a top 4 D man in his own right. I think you've missed the memo with him. Canes laugh because of that. If it's Pesce and Foegele for Nylander and Kapanen, that's different, but it's not

What from Toronto gets Pesce alone, in your opinion? I think he's the perfect type of "quiet" defender that would pair perfectly with Rielly.

just compare numbers with Dermott. He's a top 4 guy too imo. Honestly would be ok with just Nylander for Pesce 1 for 1.
