I think you could get the 3rd overall for Tkachuk honestly.

I'd rather take potentially Byfield over Drysdale.

Would bring CGY the C they've looked for a long time.

Drysdale won't be able to play top pairing minutes next year lol. He's a great prospect but he'll need at least 1 more year in the minors.

I wouldn't trade 3OA for Tkachuk as cool as that would be. Even 5OA is a close call.

An elite RHD on ELC contract for 3 years is pretty awesome. Calgary already burned a bunch of years on Tkachuk.

I would. Even if the draft pick is very valuable it's still just a pick. As an established NHL star power forward I'd take him on. It's a gamble, but I know I'm at least partially winning for getting a certain asset.

I know but for Ottawa it would be pointless to trade for Tkachuk if we can’t draft a centre.

You would add to this? I think it's fair as it stands, anything more would be an overpay.

They get Hall and the 5OA pick for Tkachuk.

Don't forget the other asset they get is a lot of cap space.

Yes I think Tkachuk is worth more than the 5th overall

I don't. But I also won't forget that they also lose an extremely important asset - probably the most valuable of that team. Certainly a piece which is hardest to replace.

Drysdale might make up for it in a couple of years, but there's no telling what will happen with the guy until he makes his debut.

If I were CGY GM, I'd absolutely require the 3rd overall pick for Tkachuk's services.

Tkachuk = proven commodity
5th overall = unproven commodity

Tkachuk >>>>> 5th overall

There needs to be multiple unproven commodities included to offset the value of a proven one.

Add Norris, the Isles pick and maybe even more.

LOL....Ottawa keeps their three 1st Rd picks and becomes a Cup contender while TChuky and the Flames go hot and cold again (make playoffs, miss, make, miss, etc.).

Laugh it up all you want. Doesn't change the fact that real NHL players are worth more than draft picks, especially a 22 year old who's already put up a 34 goal, 77 point season, any one who isn't an idiot knows that.

You tell that to Leaf fans, trade two 1st Rd and a 2nd Rd pick for Kessel, Boston Drafts Sequin and D. Hamilton.

Thank you for proving my point.

Kessel was a proven NHLer and was worth multiple draft picks. That's not new, that's normal.

Just because Boston managed to hit on both of those two high picks doesn't change that fact.

They could have just as easily ended up with Duncan Siemans and Erik Gudbranson instead. That's the risk of dealing proven NHL talent for draft picks.

Burke thought the 1st Rd picks he was giving away were going to be in the 10-20 OA zone. This is a trade with a known Draft pick value, Top 5 in a very strong Draft.

Still not enough for a 22 year old who has put up 34 goals and 77 points in a season already, and brings pedigree, leadership, etc...but now you're just making me repeat myself.

I know this is not realistic but the logic behind is...Trade Tkachuk opens cap space for Hall (rumor says he would take a hometown discount like JT for the Flames), Hall will easily replaces Tkachuk's offensive. At least one or two of the Flames UFA dmen cannot fit under the cap and their captain Giordano is a dinosaur, so adding Drysdale fixes the Dcore. Tkachuk has a higher trade value than the other trade option, Johnny Gaudreau. Also since Tkachuk signed that bridge contract, the 10+ million contract demand will be coming sooner than later.

I get the logic, but just because the Flames hypothetically sign Hall doesn't mean they should sell low on Tkachuk.
