Retool on the fly

Created by: GM_MZ_WSH

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Important thing here is that the defense gets retooled to get younger and cheaper with both veterans and young guys for some draft picks. Putting McMichael at 2C forces him to get experience so he can flourish early, keeping Kuznetsov and playing him at wing instead. Greiss becomes to Samsonov what Elliot is to Hart, which is a reliable veteran ready to play if things get shaky for the young up and coming starting netminder. Also the Capitals don't have to be a salary cap team anymore so they can be more aggressive at the trade deadline if they need to be.

Yeah ORLOV is worth way more than this. Top pairing LHD don’t go for the same return as 3rd line centers. Lol

That's what I thought, he's worth a 1st + 100%

We'd be spending the 36th overall pick on a guy we'd have to protect in the expansion draft along with Fowler and Lindholm, meaning that we'd have to expose Manson or trade him at the deadline. I don't think that it's in our long-term interest and I don't think that we should entertain thoughts of having the luxury of short-term interest (i.e., contending in 2020-2021).

Why are you dumping Orlov for a 2nd and 3rd?

For me, it clears cap space and allows for younger LHD to step up like Fehervary and Alexeyev. We're clogged at that position. Also just assumed teams would play hardball and hold onto their firsts, especially one like Anaheim that didn't make the qualifying round which is why I thought a 1st realistically may be too high for Orlov unless it's to a team that needs defense and has a mid to late 1st round pick (perhaps Edmonton may have been a better landing spot). On DeMelo, I had no idea what to expect for him price range since his previous contract was so low but knew he was a sought after deadline acquisition. That's a bit of a lowball for him but again, dumping Orlov gives us the cap space to sign him to a bigger contract. And like I said, it's a retool on the fly because it's some quick, minor changes with one bigger change that allows us to be more flexible in season with more cap space and draft picks to either trade or hold on to, along with recognizing Oshie could likely be exposed during the expansion draft that clears another larger contract

I was going to say. DeMelo’s agent should be fired into the Sun if he signs for $1.5MM AAV
