If Bowman was Competent

Created by: drwats19
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2020
Published: Aug. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pretty realistic scenario for the Hawks roster if the salary cap was managed properly, and in house talent was evaluated correctly. If you sign Panarin long term out of the gate, and don't mess with a bridge deal, then you probably get him for 7 years at 56 million. So right there you are under the cap with the savings. Keeping Seabrook over Hjlarmasson looked bad at the time, looks even worse now. This team could have competed for the Cup for 10 years straight, but now we need a pandemic to make the playoffs. FIRE BOWMAN.

It's not only about Bowman's bad trades.

The fact is that this team would've been impossible to sustain due to salary cap.

They had to make some drastic changes...it was obvious that not all moves we're good, but they were very necessary.

I think this roster right here shows that almost none of the moves that Bowman made were necessary. This roster pretty much fits under the Cap

Murphy would have never been traded to the Hawks if they weren't shopping Hjalmarsson. That was my thinking there.

No Saad if you kept Panarin. No way you wouldn't got Boqvist either cause you wouldn't have been as bad

Actually we didn't trade Shaw for Danault
We traded Weise and Fleishmann for Danault and a 2018 2nd who ended up being Romanov
So we won that trade

We traded 2 - 2nds for Shaw
One of which ended up being DeBrincat
So you won that trade

What moves are that?

He shed Panarin two years before he had to for a guy who had the same cap hit. That's not necessary.

Some things you can say were necessary. Maybe the Teravainen deal you can argue (though it really didn't work out) but why was this team capped out so badly? Because they had paid guys like Seabrook, Kane and Toews huge money. Not saying they shouldn't have kept those guys, but not all of those contracts had to look like that. Is Toews worth the same as Kane? Why did that Seabrook contract even exist? And then even after they did that, they got a break by Hossa LTIR'ing early. Even if you allow that some things were necessary to keep this team competitive, the only reason they were necessary was because of Bowman-inflicted decisions. This team was very sustainable if they had made some hard decisions that they mostly didn't make with their star players from those runs.
