Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2020
Published: Aug. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Manson’s aggressive shutdown defensive style is what the team has lacked. That was the case all season and during the qualifying round. The Maple Leafs’ lack of depth proved costly when Jake Muzzin was out of the lineup. Manson would have filled that void as a veteran presence. While the Maple Leafs have strong puck-movers on the back end, Manson’s presence would benefit the Maple Leafs with his defense-first mentality.

Columbus declines in a heart beat and Anderson isn’t signing that contract. Columbus doesn’t need a wing in the return for Anderson and we aren’t moving draft picks.

How about manson... you should be forced to watch josh “Nikita zaitsev” Manson play at least 15 games before you trade for him.

Guys the leafs might be mildly interested never lose value. They only increase in value the morw AGMs that get made no matter how they play. And the total opposite for leafs players

Don’t get me wrong, for a fair price I would add Manson.

Probably because he genuinely was when he wasn't playing injured all year, and so he's interesting as a bounce-back gamble?
(And before you make a snarky comment about Panarin - Anderson didn't play anywhere near Panarin for the bulk of Panarin's time here. They were briefly together on a line with Dubois in December 2018 and that's about it. Anderson's best season came playing alongside Foligno and Jenner.)

What a horrid trader the Leafs for two years of the middling Manson....it's 2020. not 2017. Why do you think three Leaf minor leaguers have any NHL trade value?

And I said he's interesting as a bounce-back gamble. Or, in other words, he could be good again.

Your persecution complex is not of interest to me. We're not selling at that rate.

I'm not interested in discussing fiction. Values are not "similar and somewhat constant". The value of a given asset in a trade is determined by what the team holding that asset is willing to give up, and whether or not another team is willing to go along with that; otherwise, there's no trade made. While there are heuristics that people use to approximate what that might be, they are not and cannot be hard and fast rules, because hockey players are not fungible assets. We know (thanks to the Canucks beat writer at The Athletic) that Florida offered Trocheck for Anderson straight up and was turned down; that's a nice indicator of just how much of a priority keeping Andy and trying to get him to get back to his old self is to this team. Playing the "but folks don't like the guy we're trying to trade, so you should be just as miserable as us with the guy you want to keep" game is not relevant because the situation is different. You're just going to have to live with that.
