How does these make SJ cup contending? A few too many old farts and still don’t have someone who can stop the puck (sorry Henrik)

Jones was showing good signs of bouncing back to his old form once Nabby started coaching him. A long offseason training with him will get him back to being maybe not the elite goalie we saw in the 2016 playoffs (or even 2019 playoffs) but at least being a good goalie. Henrik was also fantastic for NYR in the playoffs if you caught the series this year.

There's just two 'farts' on the bottom line that provide veteran experience and still have good play. Otherwise this is a young team with many players in their prime or only just approaching it or past it.

Leafs pass. Burns is a great player, and IMO value works, but not the right fit for what Leafs are missing.

Need another Muzzin type but preferably righthanded.

Also, Leafs are no further ahead in shedding cap with this move, so would have to make more trades.

I appreciate this. This is a totally fair assessment. As a Leafs fan too after SJ, I agree. The more likely scenario is TOR shipping off Johnsson to SJ for a 4th and TOR signing Gudas themselves.

When value is fair think it's better to expand on reasons rather than "Leafs pass".

I think one of Kappy or AJ is gone, with a Gudas type coming in somehow. Think the only thing that could get interesting for Leafs this off-season is what they decide to do with Andersen.

Think it's likely he plays out final year, but with the amount of G options out there this off-season, it's a possibility Andersen could be moved.

No.

Burns is a premier RHD. He is still incredibly productive; in 2019 he had a Norris-quality season. Given his freakish physical attributes, he should be a top-10 NHL defenseman for 2-3 years, and still an NHL player until the end of his contract. If the Sharks trade him, they shouldn't retain any salary.

I hear ya and agree but the caveat to this I see is that Burns only accepts a trade to 3 teams (unless I'm mistaken), and I think two of the three teams he accepts a trade to might be Dallas (summer home/ranch + his favorite tipper and friend Pavelski) and Toronto (he's from around that area + every Ontarian kid's dream to play for TOR, he's good friends with Matthews), and the Leafs would be insistent on retaining cap for that. I could see SJ demanding a 1st instead in that case but that's why I think a trade like this would have to involve cap retention.
