Yea I could see rangers doing this...Essentially flipping a year or two of Strome and Tony for 3 of Monahan and 4 of Hanifin. Losing Georgie and our other first hurts for sure. Do you just not like Hanifin/Monahan?

Hanafin isn’t a good fit for us he’s essentially what skjei was.

Respectully, why? NYR need a top 4 LHD and have an abundance of RHD. NYR need a 2 C and Monahan is a 1C. Strome had good chemistry with Panarin yes but he’s 18 months younger and had 8 pts in 10 playoff games. NYR has a VERY deep prospect pool, but lacks center depth. Look at Monahan contract 3 years at $6.375M for a 1B C. If Hank doesn’t retire, you give him 1 more year as backup to win. This team is very winnable. Perhaps NYR are giving too much but you aren’t getting a top 6C and a top 4 LHD without overpaying. TDA honestly is very replaceable. Nils will be up soon enough and it’s 3rd pair. TDA isn’t a top 4 defensive dman. He’s an offensive powerhouse on the D end but a 2/3 pairing defensive player. NYR need a real top LHD.

Figured adding the extra 2nd was better than giving up a Chytil or Kravtsov, since Calgary would probably require that one extra piece.

I don’t have any issues moving dlo or strome but monahan isn’t a 1C he’s a 1C on Calgary but would be a 2C likely anywhere else and I’m working about his defensive game bc he provides essentially the same thing that strome does, offense. I wouldn’t mind potentially moving strome and dlo for him but hanafins not a top LD guy and his defense hasn’t been good either and we would be in a skjei esc situation

I’m not talking about the price at all for those pieces bc that’s for the most part solid just don’t think we need both guys

I guess the value is there in the trade, but Calgary simply doesn't do it IMO
Strome would need a new deal, while Monahan is way better and under a nice contract for a 1C
Deangelo has a long way to go IMO to be what Hanifan is now. plus the headache of being an RFA
I like the idea of Georgiev and maybe a deal can be made on the side, but the rangers need him if/when Lundqvist retires
draft picks are nice, but the flames are competing now

Rangers HAVE Wall, Huska, Lindbom was drafted round 2... they have goalies. Igor potentially gets a 6X6 type of deal soon. They don’t need to continuously pay $9M on goalies as AG will get in the 3X3 range or 4X3.5 range if elsewhere...It’s too much on goaltending in the cap era, need those sub $1M backups while you can.

Agreed. Maybe they can get both goalies done for under 6 total on short term deals, see who's the better option and move on from there. Not a bad problem to have.

I think the rangers would try to get out of sending one of those draft picks but i think they would do this. It solves problems for both teams. It take surplus for calgary defensive minded LD and surplus for Rangers offensive minded RD and helps each team fill out a need. I think the cap charges for each would would probably offset too. Plus 2.5 for georgiev. All in all its a pretty fair trade. Which most people in capfriendly dont like. They always want to give their trash for the other teams gold.

Igor is so much better than AG it’s not even close. AG is a good backup who can possibly win a 50/32 split. And it’s not a knock on him he clearly is an NHL caliber goalie which means one of the best in the world.

Is he? He didn’t look very good this year especially at defense. Clearly was a no show in the playoffs

"trash for other team's gold" could be the buy line of Capfriendly.
